Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced Event Director to lead our live remote and REMI game broadcasting productions. As an Event Director, you will be responsible for coordinating and executing live productions, including ESPN's most complex and high-profile games. You will work closely with the production team, including producers, directors, and technical staff, to ensure the successful delivery of live events. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, coordinate, and execute live productions of live remote and REMI games, ensuring allocated events are recorded and broadcast to the highest standards.
  • Manage technical teams for live event productions, providing guidance, feedback, and development opportunities to ensure the successful delivery of events.
  • Collaborate with Remote Operations to determine technical facility and personnel needs for broadcasts.
  • Work with Producers and Planning Producers to determine the creative vision and technical direction for shows, driving innovation and new workflows that leverage technology.
  • Organize and lead meetings to develop production and operational strategies, as required.
  • Make constant decisions regarding what images and sounds will be broadcast, interpreting data and information to conclude camera angles, elements, and arrangements.
  • Work with engineering experts for the coordination of all elements in a broadcast, including graphics, enhanced technology elements, switcher effects, composite music, and more.
  • Conduct production and technical meetings to define team responsibilities and outline expectations for live remote events.
  • Plan for each game by conducting research on teams, players, storylines, trends, and more.
  • Provide guidance to live directors before broadcasts and guide them as needed during broadcasts.
  • Make on-the-spot editorial changes by inclusion designs as unexpected circumstances and opportunities arise.
  • Analyze, in real-time, operational issues that arise during assigned games.

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • In-depth live remote game directing experience, with a strong understanding of the live game directing process.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to clearly and concisely communicate with all team members during live broadcasts.
  • Knowledge of technical equipment involved in directing live remote games.
  • Knowledge of sports history and current trends.
  • Ability to travel, as required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in broadcasting, communications, journalism, or a closely related field preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

While not essential, the following qualifications are preferred:

  • At least 4 years of increasingly complex live game directing experience.
  • Understanding of the financial implications of directing live remote and REMI games.
  • Passion for popular culture and ability to help define ESPN viewer tastes.
  • Understanding of market positioning and strategies of assigned games.
