Job Overview

The Data Engineering Manager will play a critical role in driving the development, quality, and integrity of our data pipelines, which deliver a diverse set of data types to other engineering teams at Apple. As a Data Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for leading the design, development, and maintenance of complex, multi-component large-scale data systems, and collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams to drive the advancement of our products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, quality, and integrity of data pipelines that deliver a diverse set of data types to other engineering teams at Apple
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive the advancement of our products and services
  • Design, develop, and maintain complex, multi-component large-scale data systems
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to experienced engineers and help them grow in their careers
  • Work closely with other engineering teams to identify and prioritize project requirements
  • Develop and maintain scalable, efficient, and reliable data pipelines and architectures
  • Ensure the quality and integrity of our data systems, and identify areas for improvement

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • Master-level experience with data engineering tools and technologies, processes, objectives, and philosophies
  • Master-level experience with at least two of the following languages and related development tools: Python, Ruby, Java, Scala, Swift, Objective C
  • Experience with at least one of the following platforms: HDFS, Yarn, Spark, Impala, Kafka, HBase, MapReduce, Kubernetes, Item Store, Flink
  • A strong sense of pride in the development cycle and the will to drive the team towards continuous code, application, and process improvements
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms and technologies
  • Knowledge of data governance, security, and compliance principles
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and version control systems such as Git
  • Experience with data visualization tools and technologies, such as Tableau or Power BI
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills, with the ability to break down complex problems into manageable components
