Job Summary
As a Senior Big Data Engineer at American Express, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying scalable and efficient data pipelines using big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, and NoSQL databases. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to identify business needs and develop data-driven solutions that drive business growth and improve customer experiences. You will also be responsible for mentoring junior engineers, contributing to the development of our data engineering and science capabilities, and staying up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in the field.
Key Responsibilities
* Design, develop, and deploy scalable and efficient data pipelines using big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, and NoSQL databases
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to identify business needs and develop data-driven solutions that drive business growth and improve customer experiences
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of our data engineering and science capabilities
- Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in the field of big data and data science
- Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to develop and deploy machine learning models and data visualizations
- Develop and maintain high-quality, well-documented code and documentation
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to the improvement of our codebase
- Collaborate with other teams to identify and prioritize technical debt and implement solutions to address it
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including business leaders, data scientists, and engineers
Essential Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field
- 2+ years of experience in big data engineering and science, with a focus on Hadoop, Spark, and NoSQL databases
- Strong programming skills in languages such as Java, Python, and Scala
- Experience with data warehousing and ETL processes
- Strong understanding of data modeling and data governance principles
- Experience with cloud-based technologies such as AWS and GCP
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications
* Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field
- 2+ years of experience in cloud-based technologies such as AWS and GCP
- Experience with microservices and containerization
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau and Power BI
- Experience with machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch
- Strong understanding of DevOps principles and practices
- Experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines
- Strong understanding of security and compliance principles and practices
