Job Summary

As a Lead Registered Veterinary Technician, you will play a vital role in our hospital, overseeing and coordinating the activities of our veterinary support staff. You will be responsible for training, supervising, and assisting team members to ensure seamless delivery of high-quality animal care and client education. This position requires a unique blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and excellent communication abilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and uphold the Core Values and Mission Statement of MVP, ensuring alignment with our hospital's goals and objectives.
  • Perform all functions related to Licensed Veterinary Technician job description, including technical procedures and client education.
  • Collaborate with the Inventory Manager to purchase pharmaceutical supplies and medications, maintaining controlled substance and surgery logs.
  • Manage inventory and maintenance of pharmaceuticals, equipment, and supplies, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Provide preventative healthcare recommendations to clients, educate them on vaccines, flea, and heartworm products, and promote veterinary services.
  • Assist in all aspects of hospital performance, including answering phones, scheduling appointments, and handling client callbacks.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state animal health laws and regulations, including OSHA, Radiation, state board requirements, and DEA.
  • Train and assist veterinary support staff in technical and client education duties, facilitating the work of veterinarians and other team members.
  • Make recommendations to the Practice Manager concerning personnel matters, disciplinary actions, and follow-through.
  • Provide guidance and direction to subordinates, setting performance standards and monitoring performance.
  • Conduct monthly departmental meetings and schedule in-service meetings as needed.
  • Manage and contribute to the overall flow of the clinic, creating technical schedules and arranging shift coverage.

Requirements and Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

  • Current registration as a Veterinary Technician in the state of Colorado.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience as a Registered Veterinary Technician, with leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of veterinary medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
  • Proficiency in all RVT skills, including patient handling, medical procedures, and client education.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work effectively with clients, veterinarians, and support staff.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple tasks and responsibilities.
  • Proficient in practice management software and Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with inventory management and control.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, Radiation, state board requirements, and DEA regulations.
  • Familiarity with veterinary medical equipment and instrumentation.
  • Experience with staff training and development.
  • Certification in veterinary dentistry, surgery, or other specialized areas.
