Key Responsibilities

As an Elementary ESL Teacher, your primary responsibilities will include:

• Testing entering students for ELL services utilizing the MODEL and WAPT screeners
• Planning and delivering English language development instruction for ELL students
• Working collaboratively with general education teachers to assess the progress of students on a regular basis
• Conferencing with parents and teachers concerning individual students
• Consulting with classroom teachers regarding curriculum differentiation necessary to meet the needs of the English language learner
• Maintaining records for direct served and monitored students
• Maintaining and improving professional competencies by attending professional development opportunities
• Attending staff meetings at building and district level

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• Current Illinois Elementary Professional Educator License (PEL) with ESL Endorsement/Approval
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
• Ability to demonstrate competency in organization, flexibility, and cooperativeness
• Related experience with ELL students in a pull-out program

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:

• ACCESS and MODEL certification
• Experience with curriculum development and implementation
• Knowledge of WIDA standards and assessments
• Familiarity with technology integration in the classroom
