Job Summary

This position is located in the Behavioral Health Department at the Ft. Yates Indian Health Service Hospital, which provides a range of medical services to Native American communities in the Standing Rock Service Unit. As a Social Worker, Public Health, you will work closely with patients, families, and healthcare teams to assess, diagnose, and treat mental health problems, and to develop and implement individualized treatment plans. You will also provide crisis intervention services, consult with schools and community organizations, and participate in case management and social services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides full range of psychological services, including evaluation, diagnosis, referral, psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and specialized treatment modalities for mental health problems of adults, adolescents, and families.
  • Provides consultation to hospital staff on mental health issues and enters patient information into the electronic health record system.
  • Provides crisis intervention services to residents with a wide variety of acute mental health problems.
  • Administers and interprets basic psychological screening tools, including depression, anxiety, and suicide risk assessments.
  • Consults with schools, courts, state social services, and other organizations to assess mental health problems or issues.
  • Assists Behavioral Health and hospital clients with case management or basic social services, including Advanced Directives.

Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • Master's degree in social work (MSW) or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Licensure or certification as a social worker in the state where the hospital is located, or eligibility for licensure or certification.
  • At least 2 years of post-graduate experience in social work, with a focus on mental health services.
  • Strong knowledge of social work principles, practices, and theories, as well as experience working with diverse populations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a Native American healthcare setting or with Native American communities.
  • Familiarity with Indian Health Service policies and procedures.
  • Certification in a specialized area of social work, such as mental health or substance abuse treatment.
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills.
