About the position Senior Tax Accountant (100% Remote) Public Accounting - Drake Tax Software, 1065, 1120S, 1040 Westminster, CO - based firm $35-40/HR + Medical/Dental/Vision, PTO, 401K, OT paid for over 40 hrs/wk, Flexibility (Full-Time or Part-Time Hours Available) Navigator Recruiting client is a busy full-service 10-year-old 10-employee accounting office based in Westminster, CO (NW of Denver). The firm is growing and is seeking a Senior Tax Accountant (who can be local and come into the office every day, work hybrid or be 100% remote). The firm provides various services for small businesses in several different industries, including many start-ups. This group of professionals are known to be great listeners, and even better problem-solvers. The firm strives to help their clients by not just providing financial reconciliations and tax assistance, but insight and advice into their business based on their experiences. This firm is expanding, and this is a new/expansion role to complement the existing team, not a replacement role. The day-to-day work for the Senior Tax Accountant entails assisting with the preparation of tax returns for entities as well as individuals, and a handful of non-profits. You are to the point where you can work independently, but maybe not teach others just yet, and are teachable yourself. You enjoy challenges and are professional. You can work remotely or in the office reliably and be counted on to make deadlines and are an excellent communicator. You do not bring politics to the office or engage in inflammatory discussions as your mission is to serve our clients well and learn from each other.

Responsibilities

  • Tax preparation, planning, and assisting clients with their tax questions. This position requires organizational agility to ensure all required documents are entered in the returns, knowledge and ability to communicate with the client on missing documents.
  • Ability to make journal entries if needed for tax adjustments such as depreciation, accrued retirement contributions, etc.
  • Ability to convert accrual financial statements to cash basis for clients that this benefits.
  • Emails and correspondence with clients

Requirements

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of public accounting experience preferably with a small accounting firm
  • Drake Tax Software experience is strongly preferred
  • It helps a lot to be an Excel expert, understand Google Drive/GSuite applications, and can learn other programs.
  • Understanding how to research tax changes and how they apply to clients
  • Understanding of GAAP and basic tax terminology
  • Ability to work independently and problem solve
  • Great written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work and learn rapidly and accurately, adhere to deadlines and changing demands
  • You will need reliable internet, transportation, and phone service to accommodate remote work as well/if desired, and the company provides the equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • CPA or EA preferred - experience with both accounting (senior-level or above preferred) and tax preparation/planning (resolution not needed) highly preferred.
