R&D Tax Credits | Co-Head of Quality Assurance - Remote Working

Leonid Group has been retained by one of the fastest growing R&D tax credit consultancies in the US, to provide a Co-Head of Quality Assurance. Reporting into the Senior Compliance Partner, the Co-Head of Quality Assurance (“QA”) will be jointly responsible for ensuring the quality and accuracy of tax consulting services and establishing robust quality assurance processes. This role also includes overseeing the analysis of controlled group calculations, acquisition and dispositions, ensuring compliance with research and development credit and expense rules, and reviewing amended claims package submissions. Key Responsibilities: Quality Assurance Leadership:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance protocols and processes for the tax consulting team.
  • Conduct regular quality audits to ensure compliance with tax regulations and internal quality standards.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Consultancy, Senior Compliance Partner and Co-Head of QA to provide guidance and training to consultants to enhance the accuracy and effectiveness of their work.
  • Collaborate with senior management to establish and maintain a culture of continuous improvement in service quality.
  • Meet with clients to discuss technical issues related to their research tax credit(s) and research tax expense amortization.

Compliance and Documentation:

  • Conduct detailed reviews of credit calculations to validate claim accuracy.
  • Research and provide guidance on all state R&D credit requirements.
  • Ensure that all tax credit claims, including amended claims, are thoroughly documented, compliant with relevant tax laws, and supported by comprehensive evidence.
  • Review and validate documentation provided by clients to substantiate their tax credit claims.
  • Collaborate with Head of Consultancy, Senior Compliance Partner, and Co-Head of QA to enhance documentation processes and maintain compliance.
  • Update and keep current all qualitative and quantitative templates used by consultants to deliver research tax credit projects.

Reviewing/Updating Amended Claims Packages:

  • Review and assess amended claims packages prior to submission to the IRS and review those that have been returned by the IRS for further evaluation.
  • Identify deficiencies, inconsistencies, or areas for improvement in the amended claims process.
  • Collaborate with consultants to address IRS feedback and update claims packages for resubmission.

QA Team Leadership:

  • Co-Lead a team of consultants for all aspects of QA by providing mentorship, guidance, and performance feedback.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment within quality assurance.
  • Allocate resources effectively to meet client needs and project deadlines.
  • Ensure compliance with all state R&D credit guidelines.

Training:

  • Provide training to R&D tax professionals from the junior consultant through the manager level.
  • Provide training and work with Business Developers to assist them with general understanding of the Research Tax Credit and assist with any questions during the sales process.

Research:

  • Perform research on various tax topics, including but not limited to the research tax credit, amortizing research expenses, and other related topics.
  • Report on findings of research projects to the Head of Consultancy and/or Senior Compliance Partner.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field (CPA, EA, or JD preferred).
  • Demonstrable expertise in R&D tax credit consulting, tax compliance, or quality assurance.
  • Deep knowledge of IRC Section 41, State R&D Credits, and IRS guidelines for R&D tax credits.
  • Proven experience leading QA teams and implementing process improvements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for client interactions and team training.
