• As a Data Center Operations Engineer, you will be an integral part of our Infrastructure Operations team, focusing on expanding and enhancing Kraken's critical infrastructure. This hands-on role demands a dynamic, innovative, and self-starting individual with a proven ability to think creatively and solve complex problems sustainably. You will be responsible for the meticulous management and enhancement of our platform's physical backbone, ensuring the highest levels of uptime and performance for one of the world's leading cryptocurrency exchanges.
• Your core responsibilities will encompass performing highly skilled preventative and corrective on-site maintenance for critical exchange infrastructure. This includes diagnosing and resolving hardware issues, performing routine checks, and implementing proactive measures to prevent downtime. You will also be responsible for the precise installation of complex server and network infrastructure, ensuring all components are integrated seamlessly and efficiently.
• A significant aspect of this role involves providing hands-on facility support. This includes the physical installation of new equipment, the decommissioning of outdated hardware, the replacement of faulty components, and conducting internal audits to maintain operational integrity and compliance. Your meticulous attention to detail will be crucial in managing these physical aspects of our data centers.
• You will be the custodian of Asset and Inventory management, ensuring accurate tracking and documentation of all hardware assets within the data center. This includes maintaining up-to-date records of equipment, configurations, and locations, which is vital for efficient operations, troubleshooting, and future planning.
• Managing on-site contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors will be a key duty. You will ensure that all external parties perform their work in strict accordance with established practices, procedures, and local legislation, maintaining Kraken's high standards for safety and operational excellence.
• The role requires you to be proficient in bootstrapping physical infrastructure via out-of-band management networks. This includes utilizing tools and protocols to remotely manage and configure hardware, even when primary network connectivity is unavailable, ensuring rapid response to critical issues.
• You will also assist with basic network configuration, specifically for setting up out-of-band device access. This involves configuring IP addresses, subnets, and gateway settings to establish secure and reliable remote management capabilities.
• Contributing to capacity planning, scaling, and interconnectivity with other data centers will be part of your strategic responsibilities. You will help ensure that our infrastructure can meet the growing demands of Kraken's global user base.
• Monitoring and maintaining all physical infrastructure, including network devices, security hardware, and compute resources, across our data centers and remote office locations is paramount. You will be expected to respond swiftly and effectively to critical problems to maximize service uptime and minimize any potential disruption.
• This position requires you to assume on-call responsibilities and duties per a scheduled rotation, ensuring 24/7 support for our critical systems. Your ability to remain calm and effective under pressure will be essential during these periods.
• You will be required to travel as needed to support physical data center operations and on-site infrastructure, such as Wi-Fi access points and internet circuits. Travel may also be necessary to new facilities to support planning for future infrastructure expansion, requiring you to assess requirements and contribute to design decisions.
• This role is a hybrid on-site and remote position, offering flexibility while demanding a strong commitment to on-the-ground operational excellence in the APAC region. You will be a key player in ensuring the reliability and scalability of Kraken's global infrastructure, directly contributing to our mission of making crypto accessible to everyone.
