About the position POSITION SUMMARY The BI and Data Specialist is responsible for transforming data into actionable insights that drive strategic business decisions. This role designs, develops, and maintains business intelligence solutions, reports, and dashboards while ensuring data accuracy, accessibility, and security. The specialist collaborates with stakeholders across the organization to understand reporting needs and deliver data-driven solutions that support operational excellence and business growth.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain interactive dashboards and reports using BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.)
  • Create data visualizations that effectively communicate complex information to various audiences
  • Build and optimize SQL queries for data extraction and analysis
  • Develop automated reporting solutions to streamline business processes
  • Implement self-service BI capabilities for end users
  • Maintain and enhance existing BI infrastructure and reporting library
  • Analyze business data to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities
  • Conduct ad-hoc analysis to support strategic initiatives and decision-making
  • Perform root cause analysis on business performance issues
  • Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics aligned with business objectives
  • Provide data-driven recommendations to improve business outcomes
  • Create executive-level presentations and analytical reports
  • Design and implement data models, schemas, and warehouse structures
  • Ensure data quality, accuracy, and consistency across systems
  • Develop and maintain ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes
  • Create and document data dictionaries and metadata
  • Implement data governance standards and best practices
  • Monitor data integrity and resolve data quality issues
  • Partner with business leaders to understand reporting and analytics requirements
  • Translate business needs into technical specifications and BI solutions
  • Conduct requirements gathering sessions with department stakeholders
  • Provide training and support to end users on BI tools and reports
  • Present findings and insights to leadership and cross-functional teams
  • Serve as a trusted advisor on data and analytics matters
  • Integrate data from multiple sources including ERP, CRM, and operational systems
  • Connect and consolidate data from Paylocity, accounting systems, and other platforms
  • Optimize database queries and report performance
  • Implement data security and access controls
  • Maintain connections to cloud and on-premises data sources
  • Support system upgrades and migrations
  • Document BI solutions, data models, and technical processes
  • Create user guides and training materials for BI tools
  • Maintain inventory of reports, dashboards, and data assets
  • Document data lineage and transformation logic
  • Develop and maintain BI standards and procedures

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Management Information Systems, or related field
  • 3-5 years of experience in business intelligence, data analysis, or related field
  • Proven experience developing dashboards and reports in Power BI, Tableau, or similar BI platforms
  • Strong background in SQL and database management
  • Experience with data warehousing concepts and practices
  • Track record of delivering BI solutions that drive business value
  • Expert proficiency in BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, QlikView, or similar)
  • Advanced SQL skills for complex queries and database management
  • Experience with data modeling and dimensional design
  • Proficiency in ETL tools and processes (SSIS, Azure Data Factory, Informatica, etc.)
  • Strong Excel skills including pivot tables, formulas, and data analysis features
  • Knowledge of database systems (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, etc.)
  • Familiarity with data visualization best practices
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Outstanding attention to detail and data accuracy
  • Effective communication skills with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree or relevant certifications preferred
  • Experience with programming languages (Python, R, DAX, M) a plus
  • Experience in technology distribution, manufacturing, or telecommunications industry
  • Knowledge of business processes (sales, finance, operations, supply chain, HR)
  • Experience with cloud data platforms (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud)
  • Familiarity with Paylocity or other HRIS/HCM systems
  • Experience with ERP systems and data integration
  • Certifications in Power BI, Tableau, or other BI platforms
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis and predictive modeling
  • Experience with agile development methodologies
  • Understanding of data governance and compliance requirements (GDPR, CCPA)
  • Background in financial analysis or sales analytics
