Distinguished Software Engineer, Systems Infrastructure

Remote · USA Full-time New today

About the position At LinkedIn, our approach to flexible work is centered on trust and optimized for culture, connection, clarity, and the evolving needs of our business. The work location of this role is hybrid, meaning it will be performed both from home and from a LinkedIn office on select days, as determined by the business needs of the team. The Solstice Team is building a next-generation engineering system and infrastructure platform designed to improve engineering leverage across the company and deliver accelerated value to Microsoft's AI stack. The mission is to re-platform Microsoft's largest GPU-scale inference and training infrastructure serving hundreds of thousands of GPUs onto a modern, high-velocity engineering foundation. As a Distinguished Engineer, you will help architect and deliver core distributed systems primitives including scalable Kubernetes scheduling, metadata storage, model serving control planes, observability, and global routing — all built to run at massive scale on cloud infrastructure. This role sits at the intersection of infrastructure, distributed systems, and AI platforms, an opportunity to shape one of the most leveraged software problems at the company and build systems that will eventually onboard teams across Microsoft

Responsibilities

  • You will drive the engineering systems vision spanning hermetic builds (Bazel), continuous deployment, cryptographic supply chain integrity, infrastructure-as-code, and identity/security, with a goal of enabling AI-native developer productivity.
  • You will partner directly with senior engineering leaders across LinkedIn and Microsoft to define technical strategy, set the quality bar, and drive execution from early prototyping through full production migration of mission-critical AI workloads
  • You will help define business strategy and technical strategy and drive alignment cross functionally.
  • You will head cross team/cross functional discussions and drive alignment on technology strategy.
  • You will actively improve the level of craftsmanship at LinkedIn by developing best practices and defining best strategies.
  • You will define the bar for quality and efficiency of software systems while balancing business impact, operational impact and cost benefits of design and architectural choices.
  • You will establish a culture that values diverse viewpoints while navigating complex decisions.

  • 10+ years experience in building infrastructure at scale, with at least 5 of those years in a technical  leadership position
  • Experience building large scale infrastructure, distributed systems, and AI Platforms
  • Experience in leading large scale development projects from concept to multiple releases in production
  • Experience of technical leadership guiding and mentoring engineering and operations talent
  • Experience leading high-impact, cross-company initiatives
  • Suggested Skills: Infrastructure
