A Growth Marketing & CRO Strategist combines expertise in experimentation, conversion rate optimization (CRO), and acquisition strategy to deliver holistic growth outcomes for merchants. They connect performance marketing insights with on-site optimization to maximize the return on traffic investments and accelerate business growth. This role offers the opportunity to work directly with merchants as well as to shape the evolution of Shopify’s Professional Services offering. The Growth Marketing & CRO Strategist partners with internal teams such as Customer Success, Marketing, and Product to craft, communicate, and implement data-driven strategies that improve acquisition efficiency and on-site conversion performance. Your responsibilities:
  • Lead or support the discovery, design, and delivery of growth optimization projects that combine CRO and acquisition insights.
  • Audit and analyze full-funnel merchant performance (from ad click to checkout) to identify opportunities for conversion, retention, and lifetime value improvements.
  • Translate data insights into actionable hypotheses and clear growth roadmaps for merchants.
  • Collaborate with internal team members and teams (e.g. UX / UI Design, Creative, Developers) to integrate insights across channels and drive unified merchant recommendations.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations through compelling data stories that align merchant actions with measurable business outcomes.
  • Produce high-quality documentation, such as audit reports, prioritization frameworks, and A/B testing plans.
  • Support merchants during the solutioning, testing, and implementation / execution phases of optimizations.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of Shopify’s experimentation and growth frameworks within Professional Services. CRO specific experience:
  • Proven experience in e-commerce growth or CRO consulting, ideally with exposure to both performance marketing and on-site optimization.
  • Strong analytical mindset and understanding of how acquisition channels, user experience, and conversion interact to drive business performance.
  • The ability to translate complex data into simple, persuasive narratives for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent collaboration skills and comfort engaging with senior stakeholders across marketing, design, and technical disciplines.
  • Experience using analytics and experimentation tools to inform strategic recommendations. The ideal candidate would have an expert level of proficiency in aa few of the following areas:
  • A/B testing and experimentation frameworks, including hypothesis creation, test design, and evaluation.
  • Performance marketing and acquisition analytics, with a strong grasp of metrics like ROAS, CAC, LTV, and attribution modeling.
  • Quantitative data analysis, leveraging tools such as Google Analytics, Shopify Analytics, or Looker to uncover growth insights.
  • Qualitative research and UX analysis, including heatmaps, session recordings, and behavioral insights to identify user friction.
  • Funnel optimization and lifecycle strategy, connecting paid and retention channels into a cohesive growth journey.
  • Data visualization and storytelling, transforming complex insights into clear, impactful narratives for decision-makers.
  • Familiarity with Shopify’s app ecosystem and data frameworks, including site personalization, search, and recommendation solutions.
  • SQL or data querying skills to access and analyze deeper performance insights from merchant datasets. About Shopify Opportunity is not evenly distributed.
