Under supervision and within the framework of the librarys policies and practices, assumes responsibility for the effective execution of programs and services in support of ESOL/ABE within the Librarys broader program of services to a diverse population characteristic to an urban setting, performing work which requires substantial application of professional knowledge and experience.
Reports to
Literacy Coordinator (P3).
Supervises
As assigned, professional and non-professional staff members, volunteers, and teachers in absence of the Coordinator.
Responsibilities:
Scope of Responsibility:
- Works with Literacy Coordinator to develop, plan and implement the Librarys ESOL/ABE and Adult Literacy programs and services.
- In cooperation with the Literacy Coordinator, designs, develops, and instructs adult basic education workshops, including ESL, basic English, computer, life skills, workplace and other special projects, at the Central Library, neighborhood branches, and other remote locations.
- Under the direction of the Literacy Coordinator, implements on-going community and patron outreach and recruitment activities to increase the use of literacy resources system-wide.
- Designs and provides development support for adult literacy curriculum and lesson planning for English as a second language and Adult Basic Education classes, tutoring, and other patron-centered literacy programs.
- Provides instruction to increase patron skills in the use of literacy resources available system-wide.
- Participates in training and evaluation of literacy teachers, volunteers and interns.
- Assumes responsibility for oral presentations and written reports on literacy services activities system-wide.
- Assists in training and supervising professional and non-professional staff.
- Performs other related and comparable duties, as assigned.
- Proficiency with MSWord, Publisher, Power Point, and Excel.
- Ability to execute library policy.
