Job Summary

The Financial Counselor (Customer Services) position supports the reduction of Accounts Receivables for the Patient Financial Services department. As a key member of our team, you'll be responsible for assisting patients directly with their bill or other financial aspects of their care, responding to correspondence, billing and re-billing, handling certain denial issues, and monitoring Accounts Receivable trends. Under limited supervision, you'll determine liability on patient accounts, work with patients or their representatives to provide financial assistance or secure payment, and facilitate the processing of Medicaid and other financial assistance applications.

Key Responsibilities

* Take actions that will support the maximization of collection of balances due or account resolution from all sources, meeting Quality and Productivity expectations

  • Facilitate account resolution by accurately identifying, following up on, or correcting billing errors, lower than expected reimbursement, or denials for correction for submission or resubmission to patients and/or insurance carriers
  • Timely identify, research, and resolve any issues that may cause delays in payment or account resolution, and identify and recommend opportunities to improve collections and follow-up activities
  • Work collaboratively across teams, with peers, and revenue cycle departments to achieve shared goals and objectives

Essential Functions

  • Timely identify, research, and resolution any issues that may cause delays in payment or account resolution. Identify and recommend opportunities to improve collections and follow-up activities
  • Work collaboratively across teams, with peers, and revenue cycle departments

Job Requirements

* High School diploma

  • Bilingual - Spanish and English preferred (Please indicate on application/resume)
  • 1-2 years' experience in healthcare insurance billing or account follow-up
  • Strong knowledge of Patient Accounting systems
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Must be able to work in a team environment that requires quick turnaround and quality output

Preferred Qualifications

* Prior experience with Medicaid and Charity Care

Scheduling Requirements

* Full-time

  • Rotating Schedule: Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:00pm or 8am-4pm; Tuesday- Saturday 10:30am-6:30pm (Schedule changes based on business needs)
  • Rotating holidays required
