Senior Research Analyst
(Internally Only) Role Overview: The Senior Research Analyst is responsible for working with and supporting CZ programs/policy teams to develop, manage, and refine research and data collection strategies that answer questions at the heart of policy and advocacy campaigns. The Senior Research Analyst will provide and/or oversee comprehensive analysis of campaign data and communicate findings in a compelling and actionable way to diverse audiences for over two dozen campaigns. Additionally, as a member of the Research & Data team, the Senior Research Analyst will conduct ad hoc analyses and work on discrete research projects with a range of partners. The Senior Research Analyst will report to the Senior Research Manager.

Responsibilities
- Support research design and implementation led by the Senior Research Manager, including creating data shells, writing and maintaining data collection instruments such as codebooks and methodology.
- Collect, clean, and structure data from multiple sources (administrative records, public records responses, researcher‑generated data) using tidy principles; maintain data dictionaries and metadata.
- Partner with campaign managers and analysts to implement optimal research design and data collection strategies for multiple campaigns that span from policy assessment to quasi-experimental.
- Perform quality assurance (QA): check data for completeness, consistency, and outliers; flag and resolve issues with teammates.
- Synthesize relevant and key research findings to support campaign policy and advocacy objectives through the development and maintenance of dashboards.
- Identify areas and strategies for automation within campaigns and communicate automation needs to CZ data science and engineering operations.
- Problem-solve and identify trends, themes, and common areas for improvement across CZ campaigns.
- Support the creation of instructional materials for staff training related to research methodology, data collection, and organizational technical tools.
- Manage the operations of one or more campaigns, and with the Senior Research Manager, design the campaign’s research program.
- Serve as a day-to-day “research point of contact” between campaigns and the Senior Research Manager, with an emphasis on methods and quality assurance.
Required Qualifications
- 1 or more years of experience with quantitative and qualitative research projects, specifically implementing and documenting robust data-generation protocols and methodologies (may be non-traditional).
- 1 or more years of experience tidying, cleaning, reshaping, coding, merging, and/ or preparing administrative data files and researcher-generated data for analysis, with a preference for experience with applying the Tidy data framework.
- Demonstrated experience with data manipulation and/or statistical modeling using statistical software and programming languages like R, SQL, Python, and Stata.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Master’s degree in social science or a similar analytical field (i.e., Economics, Sociology, Psychology, Political Science, Law, etc), or equivalent non-traditional experience.
- Familiarity with retrieving and/or extracting information from relational databases via SQL and/or other automated coding mechanisms.
- Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Familiarity and experience working within project management or product management frameworks.
- Experience managing relationships with different research stakeholders and funders.
