Production Manager (Open to Remote) (New York, NY, US, NY 10019)

Penguin Random House is seeking a Production Manager to oversee the production and manufacturing of hardcover and softcover books, ensuring quality, timeliness, and budget adherence. The role requires extensive experience with one-color and four-color printing and understanding of offset and digital printing.  The ideal candidate possesses strong organizational skills, has excellent attention to detail, and can effectively multi-task and creatively solve problems to meet strict deadlines.

Specific responsibilities include

  • Consult with publishing groups to develop specifications and schedules.
  • Manage purchase orders and costs.
  • Oversee prepress and manufacturing processes including color correction and file preflighting. 
  • Maintain book specifications in SAP and FileMaker Pro.
  • Create manufacturing estimates. 
  • Examine book and component files and samples to uphold quality standards.
  • Coordinate closely with compositors, printers, binderies, and conversion vendors to troubleshoot file issues, negotiate timelines, and maintain schedules. 
  • Collaborate with Interior Design, Art, and Managing Editorial departments to complete titles.

  • Minimum of five years of experience with one-color and four-color book manufacturing both domestically and offshore
  • Strong estimating and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, SAP, and FileMaker Pro
  • Knowledge of EnFocus Pitstop, Adobe InDesign, and Photoshop is a plus
  • Effective communication and ability to manage multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment are also necessary

The salary for this position is $73,500.00. All positions are currently eligible for an annual profit award or bonus, subject to company results.
