Job title: Head Tutor, Open Doors / Upward Bound Company: Cameron University Job description: Job Description: The Head Academic Year Tutor is directly responsible to the Upward Bound and Open Doors Academic Advisors and is a part-time, temporary employee. Tutors are paid on an hourly basis to provide academic assistance to middle and high school-age participants to help them develop the academic and motivational skills needed to become self-confident and independent learners. Tutors play key roles in the entire process, and their competency, reliability and integrity are essential to the success of both programs. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Tutors must be available to work Monday through Thursday evenings from 4pm-7 pm all days Lawton Public Schools are in session and on designated Saturdays from 9am-1pm. Education:

• Demonstrated success in a post-secondary educational institution
• Academic expertise in the subject of Math, Science, English or other high school core curriculum
• Experience with and knowledge of high school students
• Excellent oral communication skills
• Ability to accurately complete tutoring and timesheet records

Personal Skills:

• Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with students, parents, and program staff
• Excellent organizational and time management skills

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Tutor and assist students in academic subject areas
• Prepare and facilitate monthly tutoring workshops for students
• Establish rapport with students assigned as tutees
• Arrive at all tutoring sessions promptly, prepared and appropriately dressed
• Report to, and keep UB and OD staff advised of both the perceived and real needs of students
• Identify student's problem areas and confer with program staff
• Attend all scheduled meetings, training sessions and individual meetings with the program staff
• Abstain from use of alcohol/tobacco products while on duty or around students
• Leave absences must be approved in advance by program staff
• Term of employment will be yearly with satisfactory evaluation
• Prepare time sheets
• Report any signs or indications of abuse to the program staff

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Prior experience with, or participation in, TRiO programs
• Preference is given to those who have succeeded in overcoming a disadvantaged background similar to program participants
