Job description: SUMMARY:
Under the direction and supervision of the Program Director, the person in this position is responsible for assisting students eligible for English Language Learners services with schoolwork and tutor them in additional Math, Science, and other topics. Excellent communication, technological, and organizational skills and a genuine desire to work with students are required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with bilingual, English-as-a-Second Language, and Dual Language students in small group settings to assist with school work and tutoring.
- Assist students with academic and career goal-setting and planning.
- Provide role modeling for students and share personal expertise/experience
- Communicate effectively with classroom teachers and department chair.
- Report concerns with student behavior to supervisors..
- Assist students to communicate with teachers about assignments and/or instructions.
- Monitor student work, clarify instructions, edit student compositions, and review completed assignments and/or exams.
- Work individually and in small group settings with students on academic tasks.
- Edit student writing, help students with homework assignments, assist students with computer use, etc.
- Provide language translations and support to students who are learning English.
- Develop and display awareness for lesson objectives and course work.
- Actively contribute to a positive school environment.
- Demonstrate responsibility, desire to help others, flexibility, open-minded non-judgemental attitude
- Completed one year of college (OR currently enrolled college student at sophomore level or above)
- Strong Fluency in Spanish language skills
- Competency using Google Chrome and Chromebooks
- Tutoring experience is a plus
- Background similar to that of participants, preferred
- Strong background in Science and Math, preferred
- Possess effective oral and written communication skills.
- Possess mathematical and analytical skills appropriate for the position.
- Ability to work with students and adults in a positive manner.
- Ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Possess common sense, problem-solving skills and reasoning ability to appropriately deal with day to day instruction and supervisory situations.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with colleagues that supports a cooperative work environment.
- Ability to handle and maintain the confidentiality of employee, student and other sensitive District information.
- Ability to set goals and establish methods for achieving these goals.
- Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
