Description of Duties/Essential Functions:
Houston Public Library (HPL) seeks a customer-service driven, creative, and energetic Library Service Specialist to assist in developing training, both virtual and in-person. The selected candidate will help create trainings by writing video scripts, creating presentations, editing videos, narrating videos, writing manuals, and more. They will focus specifically on trainings for new employees to learn best practices in library operations. The selected candidate should be supportive and encouraging to staff as they learn new skills. Also, the selected candidate will help with day-to-day operations, such as managing emails and monthly statistics.
Successful candidates will communicate effectively, provide exceptional customer service, and enjoy working with, learning and teaching new and emerging technologies, be at ease multitasking in a fast-paced public service setting and enjoy interacting with people of all ages from diverse backgrounds.
Essential job duties and responsibilities for a Library Service Specialist include:
- Creating slideshows and videos for training, retraining, and cross-training staff;
- Writing manuals, instruction guides, and post for staff Intranet;
- Taking initiative to creatively solve problems and possessing sound decision-making skills;
- Providing assistance to staff via phone, email, division email, or Teams;
- Having a strong working knowledge of Microsoft operating system and software, especially PowerPoint;
- Having knowledge of other Internet software and media applications, digital technologies, android and other software, electronic devices such as e-readers and tablets, and other technologies; and
- Gathering or collecting data to generate reports, activity logs, surveys.
- Proficient computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office;(PowerPoint, Word, Excel).
- Experience creating presentations
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Knowledge of video producing and editing.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with others.
- Experience working with people of diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to plan and organize work and skilled at prioritization.
