Purpose of Job
Pittsburgh Technical College is looking for an experienced individual to teach coursework, develop curriculum and provide training and student support in Computer Aided Drafting Program as primary job function at both Associate and Bachelor levels. This position works effectively as a team member to support the Pittsburgh Technical College mission.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in field is required (Master's preferred);
If the individual does not have the required degree, he/she must agree to complete at least 6 semester or 9 quarter credits per year toward the required degree in the field.
State teaching certification not required
Experience Requirements
Areas of expertise in one or more of the following:
- Detailing
- Assembly
- GD&T
- Design Process
- Casting & Molding
- Sheet Metal
- Related skill requirements:
- CAD/design experience in the mechanical industry
- Software experience preferred but not required:
- CREO, SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD, Autodesk Pipe 3D
- Four years of CAD related work experience preferred
- Preference is given for prior teaching experience
- Teach up to 5 class-sections with 1 - 3 preparations per week.
- Perform effectively in the learning environment by being prepared, maintaining discipline, and engaging students in the learning process.
- Address student academic issues such as student attendance, student persistence, and/or tutoring needs.
- Work in conjunction with student advisors and academic leaders to resolve students' nonacademic issues.
- Maintain student course records in the Student Information System (SIS) to accurately reflect student progress.
- Use PTC's Learning Management System (LMS), which is currently Blackboard, to provide course/supplemental materials and communicate with students using course announcements, discussion boards, and/or collaborate sessions.
- Serve as a role model for the students by demonstrating an excellent work ethic, portraying professionalism, and providing motivation for industry success.
- Stay current on industry, market, research and competitive trends.
- Participate in approved professional development each year as discussed and agreed upon with your Academic Chair at a minimum of 8 hours per year.
- Deliver program curriculum by creating and following weekly lesson plans.
- Refresh courses by using new teaching strategies and/or revamping course materials.
- Work in conjunction with the Curriculum and Assessment Coordinator and Academic Chair on course revision, curriculum mapping, and outcomes assessment.
- Maintain current curriculum on departmental network drives in an organized manner.
- Document efforts to improve student learning based on assessment results and other institutional assessment reports.
- Attend all graduation activities. Graduation dates are posted on the master calendar.
- Support PTC student and employee events as appropriate, which may be held on Saturdays or evenings.
- Equipment used includes desktop or laptop with Microsoft Windows environment, phone, specialized software and printing devices, and other general office equipment
- Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
- Work generally performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards
