What you'll do

As an Infrastructure DevOps Automation Engineer, you’ll contribute to and manage the selection, creation and maintenance of technologies required to meet the needs of our customers and colleagues, strategic targets and architecture outcomes, along with developing products using modern engineering practices and tools. You’ll collaborate with colleagues across several domains to develop solutions to meet their requirements as well as identifying opportunities for automation, conducting experiments on new ideas, and integrating successful solutions of hosting-specific tooling and observability platform.

As a key member of the team, you’ll play a pivotal role in driving innovation and efficiency of our network engineering capability. This includes the design, development and implementation of automated capabilities that enhance network performance, reliability, operational visibility, troubleshooting, and agility.

We’ll look to you to collaborate with Product Owners and respective SMEs to develop product roadmaps and manage the lifecycle of the team's products and support engineered products to respond to customer feedback, new feature requests, resolve production issues and help customers consume our products.

Additionally, you’ll:

  • Take a lead role within a team to design and engineer intuitive self-service infrastructure products
  • Develop technical skills through continuous learning and development
  • Contribute to the delivery of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions
  • Build an awareness of design thinking tools and techniques with users in order to improve your product
  • Work with key vendors in the delivery of the infrastructure services and technology for the products and services being developed

The skills you'll need

To thrive in this role, you’ll have experience of developing code for use in a large enterprise environment, managing multiple vendor technologies as well as automation tooling. You’ll bring strong knowledge of common scripting languages and automation tooling, including server‑based Python frameworks, with an understanding of the software development lifecycle.

You'll also have a good understanding of Agile working practices and toolsets with the ability to create the vision for the Release Train, feature team, platform and domain. 

Furthermore, you’ll need:

  • To be proficient in API interaction between systems, including API consumption, development and integration
  • Understanding of container application development using container tooling
  • Understanding of relational database structure and interaction within a software application, with good working knowledge of in-memory key and value message brokers
  • Strong knowledge of DevOps practises and CI/CD pipelines, including experience of modern tooling
  • Experience in software testing practices and tools, as well as using observability tools and techniques to leverage data, insights and user sentiment to continuously improve solutions
  • Public cloud vendor knowledge covering GCP, AWS and Azure
  • Strong collaborative communication skills for articulating technical concepts clearly to stakeholders
