Position Summary

The Sales Rep is responsible for managing and developing a sales territory consisting of Independent Agencies of more complex profiles.  Responsibilities include building relationships with agencies, optimizing growth potential of assigned agencies, prospecting and appointing new agencies, exceeding or meeting year over year goal objectives, utilizing Mercury sales tools, developing competitor intelligence, and collaborating with team members on product, pricing, and agency management decisions.

State specific pay scales for this role are as follows:

$83,670 to $161,815 (CA, NJ, NY, WA, HI, AK, MD, CT, RI, MA)

$76,064 to $147,104 (NV, OR, AZ, CO, WY, TX, ND, MN, MO, IL, WI, FL, GA, MI, OH, VA, PA, DE, VT, NH, ME)

$68,457 to $132,394 (UT, ID, MT, NM, SD, NE, KS, OK, IA, AR, LA, MS, AL, TN, KY, IN, SC, NC, WV)

The expected base salary for this position will vary depending on a number of factors, including relevant experience, skills and location.

Responsibilities:

Essential Job Functions

  • Plan and execute weekly in-person and virtual sales calls within assigned agencies.
  • Develop and manage a profitable book of business by identifying, vetting, and maintaining a strong pipeline of agency prospects.
  • Execute sales strategies to grow Mercury market share, adjusting tactics based on company goals, data, competitor intel, and industry conditions.
  • Build and manage strategic plans for assigned agencies, identifying opportunities, challenges, and mutually beneficial, need-based solutions.
  • Influence and coach agents to quote and sell Mercury products, using data analytic tools and metrics to drive performance and accountability.
  • Provide timely feedback to management on market conditions, service levels, and program effectiveness.
  • Respond promptly to telephone and written inquiries, comments, and concerns from agents and customers.
  • Train, mentor, and support agency staff and less experienced sales representatives; ensure agency teams are fully trained on Mercury systems and tools.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and participate in special assignments, hiring/training activities, conventions, and tradeshows as needed.
  • Complete ongoing seminars/courses and perform other related duties as assigned to enhance contributions to team and territory performance.
Qualifications:

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree required 
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record (as determined by Company policy) required.

Experience

  • At least 5 years of experience of sales with at least 3 years of Property & Casualty insurance industry experience required
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong professional written, phone, and virtual communication skills to collaborate and build relationships with agencies and internal teams.
  • Comfortable leading and participating in video conferences and virtual trainings.
  • Able to clearly explain complex issues, support Company policies, offer technical guidance, and facilitate training sessions.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, analyze complex reports, and use CRM systems effectively.
  • Demonstrated business agility; can pivot quickly, think creatively, and be resourceful in solving problems.
  • Works independently with minimal supervision to train agencies both virtually and during on-site visits.
  • Willing and able to travel approximately 10% by air and 90% by automobile for agency visits and company events.
  • Strong organization, time management, and multitasking skills to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Ability to motivate, monitor, and develop agencies, including effective negotiation and mediation skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and working knowledge of CRM platforms.
