Job description: Libertyville School District 70 is seeking a personable and outgoing candidate to fill the position of Long-term General Music / Choral Teacher at Highland Middle School. It is anticipated to start the beginning of October, and could be for 3 weeks.
Qualifications:
- A current Professional Educator License (PEL)
- Endorsements in content area and Middle School, preferred
- Experience student teaching and/or current experience in this content area preferred
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
- Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
- Plans a balanced music program and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
- Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
- Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of the students.
- Maintains control of storage and use of school-owned property; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments and equipment as required.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and musical performances.
- Evaluates each student?s musical growth and performance, assessing each individual?s contribution to the performance of the group; assigns citizenship and scholarship marks.
- Plans, rehearses, and directs students in musical programs for school and community; applies knowledge of district procedures and limitations set on performances.
- Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids, and instructional supplies; maintains required inventory records;makes purchases as authorized.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
- Communicates with parents and school counselors regarding student progress.
- Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on committees as required.
- Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
- Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by an administrator.
