Epiq is a company that focuses on complex, global legal outcomes and is seeking Applied AI Systems Engineers to enhance their AI-native systems. The role involves designing and building AI-driven solutions, integrating them into enterprise workflows, and delivering measurable business impact.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build AI‑native solutions that integrate frontier models, data pipelines, APIs, and enterprise content
  • Rapidly prototype applied AI solutions and evolve them into production‑ready systems
  • Build and connect retrieval systems, embedding pipelines, and structured/unstructured data flows
  • Integrate AI capabilities into real workflows with measurable business impact
  • Work across product, data, and engineering boundaries to identify and solve high‑leverage problems
  • Challenge Assumptions: Speak up when an assumption is wrong, explain why, and be equally comfortable saying, “I was wrong, let’s adjust.”

Skills

  • 1–5+ years of experience in software engineering, applied AI, or data‑centric systems
  • Experience using Python or TypeScript in building real systems that connect APIs and services
  • Experience using Python or TypeScript in building real systems that connect databases and/or unstructured content
  • Experience using Python or TypeScript in building real systems that connect data pipelines or ETL workflows
  • Familiarity with modern AI/ML concepts, including LLMs, embeddings, and retrieval
  • Comfort operating without perfect specs — you can identify problems, propose solutions, and ship
  • Ability to distinguish demo‑quality work from production‑viable systems
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure)
  • Hands‑on work with retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG) or embedding pipelines
  • Exposure to graph databases or complex data relationships
  • Familiarity with frontier LLMs (e.g., Anthropic, OpenAI, etc.)
  • A portfolio of personal or professional AI projects you can discuss deeply
