Responsibilities
- Prepare, record and maintain general ledger entries and GL account reconciliations
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
- Reconcile bank accounts and intercompany accounts
- Support financial statement preparation (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow)
- Support revenue recognition and cost allocation for cost-plus, T&M, fixed price contracts
- Prepare and submit customer, subcontractor and vendor invoices
- Process and finalize payroll accurately and timely
- Review, audit, and validate payroll data (hours, rates, deductions, taxes)
- Serve as primary point of contact for payroll inquiries and issue resolution
- Coordinate with employees and project managers to resolve timesheet discrepancies
- Perform labor distribution, journal entries, GL reconciliations and benefits mapping
- Maintain records and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
- Prepare and assist with tax filings, W-2 preparation, state taxes and year-end reporting
- Record, maintain and reconcile PTO accruals, leave balances, employee and employer contributions, deductions
- Support internal and external audits
- Support process improvements, system enhancements or implementations
- Generate payroll, labor, and financial reports for management
- Support Accounting and FP&A team and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor and management
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience: 4–7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years of experience specifically within the Government Contracting (GovCon) industry.
- Payroll Expertise: Proven experience managing multi-state payroll and a strong understanding of federal/state payroll tax regulations.
- GovCon Knowledge: Familiarity with FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulation) and DCAA compliance requirements is highly preferred.
- Technical Skills: * Proficiency in GovCon-specific ERPs (e.g., Deltek Costpoint, Unanet, or Sage Intacct).
- Advanced Excel skills (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, data manipulation).
- Experience with payroll platforms
- Soft Skills: Exceptional communication skills for resolving employee inquiries and the ability to handle sensitive, confidential data with total discretion.
