Mechanical Design Engineering

Westinghouse is committed to delivering innovative nuclear energy solutions and is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to design mechanical systems and components for nuclear technology projects. The role involves creating 3D models, manufacturing drawings, and collaborating with global teams to ensure compliance with design specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Develop 3D models, detailed manufacturing drawings and bills of materials for complex electro-mechanical first of a kind tooling
  • Assemble and test custom equipment through the design evolution from prototype to finished product
  • Assist with the development of test procedures for systems to ensure compliance with design specifications
  • Assist with the operation of the final tooling system in the customer facilities
  • Perform both classical hand calculations and analysis (including FEA) to qualify systems or components against applicable codes & standards
  • Prepare concise design reports and technical specifications
  • Promote innovation and new methods in the development of new technologies and nuclear systems
  • Collaborate globally within the Westinghouse Engineering framework alongside SMEs and nuclear specialists
  • Support resolution of issues throughout design, manufacture and testing of systems or components

Skills

  • Degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering from an accredited institution
  • 0 to 2 minimum years of relevant experience, recent new graduates without experience will be considered
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, experience working effectively in a team environment
  • Experience in conceptual design development, design reviews and engineering change control processes
  • Experience in the design/building of custom equipment typically: steel structures, hoisting/lifting systems, mechanical drive/positioning systems, electro-mechanical systems
  • Experience in working within 3D CAD systems
  • Experience with manufacturing techniques, welding procedures or specifications and associated inspection techniques
