The Technology Risk Manager will be responsible for leading a team that identifies, assesses, and manages technology risks associated with machine learning and generative AI solutions. This role partners closely with engineering, data science, security, legal, compliance, 2nd line risk and business stakeholders to ensure Machine Learning and AI-driven technologies are designed, deployed, and operated in a safe, ethical, and compliant manner. This position requires both strong people leadership and deep expertise in AI/ML risk, including model risk, data risk, third-party risk, and regulatory expectations for responsible AI.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Lead and manage a team of technology risk professionals responsible for AI/ML and emerging technology risk oversight
  • Establish and maintain risk governance, standards, and control frameworks for Generative AI and Machine Learning solutions
  • Provide risk review and challenge of AI/ML model design, development, validation, deployment, and ongoing monitoring
  • Partner with data science, engineering, and business teams to embed effective risk controls throughout the AI/ML lifecycle
  • Oversee risk assessments, control testing, issue management, and remediation activities related to AI and advanced analytics
  • Evaluate and manage third-party and vendor risks associated with AI platforms, tools, and data sources
  • Translate complex technical and model risks into clear, actionable insights for senior leaders and governance forums
  • Monitor emerging regulatory guidance, industry standards, and best practices related to AI and model risk management
  • Prepare and present risk reporting, metrics, and recommendations to leadership and risk committee
  • Has authority to make decisions related to technology and AI/ML risk assessments, control recommendations, and issue escalation
  • Exercises independent judgment in applying risk frameworks and advising stakeholders
  • May approve risk positions, remediation plans, and risk acceptances within defined thresholds
  • Direct supervision of Sr Analysts and Analysts in Technology Risk
  • Responsible for performance management, hiring, coaching, and development of team members

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Engineering, Risk Management, or a related field required
  • Master’s degree preferred (e.g., Data Science, Cybersecurity, Risk Management, MBA, or related discipline)
  • Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of advanced education
  • Strong people leadership, coaching, and talent development capabilities
  • Deep understanding of AI/ML technologies, including LLMs, model training, validation, and deployment
  • Knowledge of Responsible AI principles, model risk management, and data governance
  • Ability to assess and challenge complex technical risks with sound judgment
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence senior leaders
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, rapidly evolving technology environments
