Senior Systems Engineer - Nuclear Safety / Surety

Basic Qualifications :

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering, Technology or Mathematics field. Also requires 5+ years of job-related experience, or a Master's degree plus 3 years of job-related experience. Agile experience preferred.  

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:: Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at a reasonable amount of time. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position:

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Advanced Systems Engineer 3 to support and lead systems engineering efforts with a specialized focus on Nuclear Surety. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in nuclear weapons systems, surety principles, and safety/security/reliability requirements in support of mission-critical national defense programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead systems engineering activities ensuring compliance with Nuclear Surety standards, policies, and regulations
  • Apply nuclear surety principles including Safety, Security, and Reliability (S2R) across system design and development
  • Develop and maintain nuclear surety documentation including Safety Rules, Surety Assessments, and System Safety Plans
  • Ensure compliance with DoD Directives (DoDD 3150.02), AFI 91-series, and other applicable nuclear surety regulations
  • Conduct and support Nuclear Surety Inspections (NSIs) and surety working groups
  • Perform hazard analyses including Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
  • Collaborate with government customers, program offices, and stakeholders on nuclear surety requirements
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers
  • Support proposal development, design reviews, and customer briefings related to nuclear surety

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related technical field; Master's degree preferred
  • Experience: 5+ years of relevant systems engineering experience, with significant focus on nuclear weapons systems or nuclear surety
  • Clearance: Active Secret clearance prefered

Skills

  • Deep knowledge of Nuclear Surety principles and DoD nuclear policy
  • Hazard Analysis methodologies (PHA, FTA, FMEA)
  • Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
  • Requirements management tools (DOORS, Jama)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a highly classified and regulated environment

Salary Note: This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary.
