You'll play a key role in delivering high-quality, personalized learning experiences as we continue to expand our reach globally. Role Overview We are seeking an outstanding and creative Teacher of Photography and 3D Art to join our Greenwich campus as Subject Lead. This is a fully remote teaching role delivering live, synchronous lessons to small classes (maximum 15 students) across KS3 3D Art, iGCSE Photography, and AS Photography. As Subject Lead, you will shape the vision for visual arts at CGA, drive curriculum design, and oversee the consistency, quality, and ambition of teaching across the subject. You will combine excellent classroom practice with strategic leadership, championing creativity in a fully online environment. Working Pattern

  • Teaching load: up to 22 periods per week
  • Lesson length: 45 to 55 minutes
  • Typical working hours: 7:00 to 15:00 (UK time)
  • Most lessons scheduled between 7:00 and 14:00 (UK time)
  • Some teaching may occur earlier for staff based outside of the UK depending on student demand (currently from 2:00 UK time onwards for staff in Asia)

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

  • Plan and deliver engaging live online lessons that are well-structured, sequenced, interactive, and adapted to learner needs
  • Teach a broad range of photographic techniques, including digital capture, composition, lighting, post-production (Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom), and analogue or experimental processes where appropriate
  • Deliver KS3 3D Art with confidence, supporting students to explore sculpture, construction, mixed media, and three-dimensional design through online-friendly approaches
  • Develop students' visual literacy, critical analysis, and contextual understanding of artists and photographers
  • Use evidence-informed strategies such as retrieval practice, modelling, live demonstration, and guided practice
  • Set purposeful homework that develops practical skill, sketchbook work, and conceptual thinking
  • Provide timely, clear, and actionable feedback on both portfolio work and written components

Curriculum Delivery and Subject Leadership

  • Lead the Photography and 3D Art subject area, setting strategic direction and standards
  • Deliver curriculum aligned with Pearson Edexcel iGCSE Photography and AS Photography specifications
  • Design and refine in-house KS3 3D Art programmes suited to online delivery
  • Ensure curriculum sequencing, assessment, and resourcing are coherent across year groups
  • Lead departmental meetings, moderation, and quality assurance
  • Stay current with awarding body updates, exemplars, and moderation guidance

Assessment and Progress

  • Use formative and summative assessment, including portfolio reviews, critiques, and timed practical assessments
  • Prepare students for externally set assignments and controlled assessments
  • Track student progress against benchmarks and intervene where needed
  • Contribute to internal assessments, reporting cycles, and exam entry decisions

Online Teaching Practice

  • Deliver high-quality lessons in a fully remote, synchronous environment using Zoom, Canvas, and Teams
  • Design lessons that translate practical, studio-based learning into a virtual setting, including live demonstrations, screen-shared editing, and peer critique
  • Maintain well-organised online course materials, digital portfolios, and exemplar libraries
  • Ensure all students actively participate and demonstrate visible thinking

Pastoral and Wider School Contribution

  • Build positive relationships with students in an online setting
  • Contribute to the pastoral system, including as a Form Tutor
  • Communicate effectively with parents and carers about progress and portfolio development
  • Support extracurricular activities such as exhibitions, photography clubs, competitions, and enrichment
  • Participate in assemblies, events, and wider school initiatives

Professional Collaboration and Development

  • Engage actively in the CGA Professional Growth Cycle, including lesson observations, peer observations, and professional learning
  • Collaborate with colleagues across campuses and share best practice
  • Reflect on teaching and lead continuous improvement within the subject

Essential

  • Qualified teacher status (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 2 years' teaching experience
  • Experience teaching Photography at GCSE or A Level (or international equivalents)
  • Confidence teaching 3D Art at KS3, including sculptural and three-dimensional processes
  • Strong technical knowledge of digital photography, editing software, and visual arts pedagogy
  • Ability to plan and deliver high-quality lessons
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Confidence using digital tools for teaching and learning
  • Ability to engage and motivate students in an online environment

Desirable

  • Experience teaching Pearson Edexcel or International Edexcel Photography specifications
  • Prior subject leadership or curriculum design experience
  • Experience in online or blended learning environments
  • Experience teaching internationally diverse cohorts
  • Familiarity with Canvas, Zoom, or Teams
  • Active artistic or photographic practice
