Position Overview

arenaflex is urgently seeking an enthusiastic After‑School Dance Instructor to join our Chatham location for the 2023‑2024 school year. You will be responsible for designing and delivering engaging, age‑appropriate dance lessons, fostering a supportive atmosphere, and ensuring the safety and well‑being of every student.

Key Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Development: Design dynamic lesson plans that incorporate a variety of dance styles (ballet, jazz, hip‑hop, contemporary, and more) and align with arenasflex’s educational standards.
  • Instruction & Demonstration: Teach core techniques, choreography, and movement fundamentals to children aged 5‑12, adapting instruction to accommodate different skill levels.
  • Classroom Management: Create a positive, inclusive environment where every child feels valued, respected, and motivated to participate.
  • Safety Oversight: Monitor the studio space, enforce safety protocols, and promptly address any injuries or concerns.
  • Student Assessment: Observe and document each student’s progress, providing constructive feedback and celebrating milestones.
  • Community Engagement: Communicate regularly with parents, teachers, and arenaflex staff to share updates, answer questions, and coordinate events.
  • Program Promotion: Assist with occasional showcase performances, open houses, and promotional activities that highlight the dance program’s achievements.
  • Professional Development: Participate in training sessions, workshops, and peer‑learning opportunities to stay current with dance education trends.

Essential Qualifications

  • Demonstrated passion for dance and a solid understanding of multiple dance genres (ballet, jazz, hip‑hop, etc.).
  • Experience teaching or coaching children in a recreational or educational setting is highly preferred.
  • Ability to craft fun, engaging, and age‑appropriate lesson plans that balance structure with creativity.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and the capacity to convey complex movement concepts in simple terms.
  • Energetic, patient, and empathetic demeanor, with a talent for providing positive reinforcement.
  • Strong organizational skills, punctuality, and reliability for a consistent after‑school schedule (Monday‑Friday, 2:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.).
  • Basic first‑aid knowledge or willingness to obtain certification prior to start date.

  • Formal training in dance (e.g., degree, conservatory program, or professional certification).
  • Previous experience working in an after‑school or extracurricular program.

Compensation & Benefits
