Position Summary

arenaflex is hiring a Part Time Data Scientist specializing in Real World Evidence to join our Scientific Affairs team. This is a fully remote opportunity based in New York, USA, offering a competitive hourly rate of $27/hour. The role is structured around an 8-hour work schedule, providing the ideal balance for professionals seeking meaningful, high-impact work without the constraints of a traditional full-time commitment.

As a key member of our Scientific Issues team, you will lead sophisticated analyses that address critical business and clinical questions. Your work will directly influence internal decision-making and external partnerships, helping biopharmaceutical clients unlock insights from real-world, clinical, and other healthcare data sources. This position reports to the Chief of Clinical Data Science and offers a unique opportunity to apply advanced analytics within the clinical trials and RWE domains.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Mining and Preparation: Mine raw datasets to deliver standardized, analysis-ready patient cohorts from internal data assets and licensed platforms. Analyze and interpret results to shape analytical strategy and ensure data quality.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with members of the arenaflex Clinical Trial team to deliver meaningful insights from real-world, clinical, and supplementary data sources. Support biopharmaceutical RWE and clinical trial requests, including analysis of unmet needs, safe and effective treatment patterns in specific disease states, treatment pathways, healthcare financial burden, and cost-effectiveness modeling.
  • Data Engineering and Lake Management: Clean, transform, and store data into a unified data lake for future analysis and broader team consumption, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.
  • Statistical Analysis and Insight Generation: Perform data mining and statistical analyses on RWE and RWD to discover new insights regarding patient populations and treatment outcomes.
  • Platform and Capability Development: Support the development of real-world data, analytics, and platform capabilities by applying advanced analytics and tools to address scientific questions from biopharmaceutical organizations.
  • Outcomes Research Design: Collaborate on the design and execution of outcomes research studies, ensuring methodological rigor and relevance.
  • Quality Assurance and Reporting: Ensure high-quality, comprehensive, and readily interpretable outputs from RWE studies and analyses. Build dashboards, analytics, and reports for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Vendor and Data Source Evaluation: Conduct due diligence on new real-world data providers and vendors, driving RWD quality assessments to inform enterprise decisions.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Computer Science, Health Informatics, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience using R, Python, or SQL for data analysis and modeling.
  • Experience designing and executing robust, reproducible statistical analyses within the context of epidemiology and observational research using healthcare data.
  • Solid knowledge of common statistical testing methods, including generalized linear models, classification and regression, decision trees, unsupervised learning, time series analysis, and survival analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience processing large datasets from multiple data sources.
  • Experience handling protected patient health information (PHI) in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Familiarity with at least one of the following business intelligence tools: Tableau, Power BI, Alteryx, Spotfire, or comparable platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in EMR/Health IT systems, disease registries, and insurance claims databases.
  • Proficiency in clinical data standards, clinical terminologies, and controlled vocabularies used in healthcare data and ontologies (ICD-9, ICD-10, ReadCode).
  • Experience with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and/or regulatory compliance guidelines for real-world evidence studies or clinical trials (e.g., ISO, MDD/MDR, CFR).
  • Experience working with alternative data sources and innovative methods of clinical data collection, particularly those enabled by technology platforms and partnerships.
  • Experience with experimental design, Bayesian modeling, sequential data, and computational statistics.
  • Strong understanding of statistical and machine learning techniques, with a demonstrated ability to pursue continuous self-learning of both technical and non-technical skills.

Skills and Competencies for Success

Success in this role requires more than technical proficiency. The ideal candidate combines analytical rigor with exceptional communication skills, translating complex statistical findings into clear, actionable insights for both technical and non-technical audiences. A genuine passion for healthcare, patient outcomes, and the responsible application of data science will set you apart.
