Why This Role Matters

In today’s fast‑moving financial landscape, the ability to ingest, process, and analyze massive volumes of data in real time is a competitive advantage. As a Senior Big Data Software Engineer at arenaflex, you will be at the heart of this transformation, designing and delivering robust data pipelines, optimizing large‑scale analytics workloads, and mentoring the next generation of engineers. Your work will directly influence risk management, fraud detection, customer insights, and strategic product development across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of end‑to‑end big‑data solutions that handle petabyte‑scale datasets with high availability and low latency.
  • Architect and implement data ingestion frameworks using Hadoop, Spark, and Kafka to support both batch and streaming workloads.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, product owners, and compliance teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical designs.
  • Drive the creation of reusable data models, ETL pipelines, and data‑quality frameworks that adhere to arenaflex’s governance standards.
  • Perform deep‑dive performance tuning, capacity planning, and cost optimization on cloud platforms (AWS) and on‑premise clusters.
  • Mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and champion best practices in software engineering, DevOps, and data security.
  • Develop automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and monitoring solutions using GitHub, Bitbucket, Ansible, and related tooling.
  • Audit complex technical challenges, provide root‑cause analysis, and propose innovative solutions that balance speed, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
  • Document architectural decisions, technical specifications, and operational runbooks to ensure knowledge transfer and continuity.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies (e.g., Flink, Delta Lake, DataBricks) and evaluate their applicability to arenaflex’s data ecosystem.

Essential Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of professional software development experience, with a focus on big‑data technologies.
  • Core Technologies: Proven hands‑on experience with Hadoop ecosystem components (HDFS, Hive, Pig), Spark, and Kafka.
  • Databases: Strong background in Teradata, MongoDB, and relational databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL).
  • Cloud Platforms: At least 3 years of experience designing and operating solutions on AWS (EC2, S3, EMR, Redshift).
  • Version Control: Proficiency with GitHub and Bitbucket for source‑code management and collaboration.
  • Programming Languages: Expertise in Python, Scala, and Unix/Shell scripting; familiarity with Java is a plus.
  • Workflow Orchestration: Experience with Oozie, Airflow, or similar tools for scheduling complex pipelines.
  • Configuration Management: Hands‑on experience with Ansible for automated provisioning and deployment.
  • ETL Development: Demonstrated ability to design and implement ETL processes using SQL Server SSIS, data migration, and transformation tools.

Preferred Qualifications & Additional Skills

  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in a quantitative field.
  • Professional certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Cloudera Certified Professional, or similar.
  • Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and serverless architectures.
  • Knowledge of data‑governance frameworks, GDPR, and other regulatory compliance standards.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of presenting technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast‑paced environment while maintaining a proactive, solution‑oriented mindset.
  • Prior experience in the financial services sector, particularly in risk, compliance, or fraud analytics.

Core Competencies for Success

  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to dissect complex data problems, identify root causes, and devise elegant, scalable solutions.
  • Leadership: Proven track record of leading technical projects, guiding cross‑functional teams, and influencing stakeholders.
