Why This Role Matters

Data is the lifeblood of arenaflex’s operations. From optimizing aircraft utilization to personalizing the passenger journey, the insights generated by our data platforms drive strategic decisions across the entire enterprise. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be at the heart of this ecosystem, designing and maintaining the pipelines that turn raw data into actionable intelligence. Your work will directly influence operational efficiency, revenue growth, and the overall travel experience for our customers worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines that ingest, transform, and store large, complex data sets from multiple sources, including flight operations, reservation systems, and third‑party partners.
  • Lead cross‑functional initiatives that improve data quality, reliability, and latency, ensuring that downstream analytics and reporting teams have timely, trustworthy data.
  • Develop and enforce best practices for data modeling, schema design, and data governance in alignment with arenaflex’s enterprise architecture standards.
  • Collaborate closely with data scientists, product managers, and business stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical specifications and deliver robust data solutions.
  • Implement automation and orchestration tools (e.g., AWS Step Functions, Airflow) to replace manual processes, reducing operational overhead and minimizing error rates.
  • Mentor junior engineers, provide technical guidance, and foster a culture of continuous learning within the data engineering team.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend enhancements to the data platform that improve performance, cost‑efficiency, and scalability.
  • Participate in on‑call rotations and incident response, applying sound judgment to resolve critical production issues swiftly.
  • Document architecture decisions, data flow diagrams, and operational procedures to ensure knowledge sharing across the organization.
  • Support compliance initiatives by implementing data security controls, audit trails, and privacy safeguards in accordance with industry regulations.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience designing and operating data pipelines in a cloud environment, preferably AWS.
  • Proficiency with SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Redshift, DynamoDB, Snowflake).
  • Strong programming skills in Python, Java, or Scala, with a focus on data‑processing libraries such as Apache Spark or Flink.
  • Demonstrated experience with ETL/ELT tools, data orchestration platforms, and infrastructure‑as‑code concepts (Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts, dimensional modeling, and data lake architectures.
  • Excellent problem‑solving abilities, with a track record of diagnosing complex data issues and delivering effective solutions.
  • U.S. citizenship or authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setting while maintaining strong communication with distributed teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or advanced certifications in data engineering, cloud architecture, or related disciplines.
  • Experience with real‑time streaming technologies such as Kafka, Kinesis, or Pulsar.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (Tableau, Looker, Power BI) to understand downstream analytics needs.
  • Prior experience in the airline, travel, or logistics industry, providing context for aviation‑specific data challenges.
  • Knowledge of data privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA) and best practices for secure data handling.
  • Proven ability to lead large‑scale data migration projects or cloud‑native modernization initiatives.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to dissect complex problems, identify root causes, and propose data‑driven solutions.
  • Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with product, engineering, and business teams across multiple time zones.
