The arenaflex "Earn While You Learn" Pharmacy Technician Training Program

arenaflex is proud to champion an innovative "earn while you learn" Pharmacy Technician training program, recognized by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and the Department of Labor. This apprenticeship program provides you with an entry point to a meaningful career in healthcare by guiding you through the steps toward becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) licensed Pharmacy Technician.

This coursework is recommended for 3 semester hours at the lower-division baccalaureate/associate degree level and 5 semester hours in the upper-division baccalaureate degree level.

Key Responsibilities

As a Pharmacy Technician at arenaflex, you will play a vital role in our pharmacy operations. Here's what you can expect:

  • Pharmacy Operations: Under the supervision of the pharmacist, assist in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state, federal, and arenaflex policy. This includes reviewing and complying with the arenaflex Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
  • Prescription Processing: Use pharmacy systems to enter patient and drug information, ensuring data is entered accurately. Fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical tablets, verifying medication accuracy, and checking for possible interactions.
  • Patient Interaction: Engage customers and patients by greeting them and providing assistance with services and products. Resolve customer issues and answer inquiries to ensure a positive patient experience.
  • Quality Assurance: Report prescription errors immediately to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to company rules and procedures regarding pharmacy errors and quality improvement programs.
  • Cashier Duties: Be accountable for registering all related income on assigned cash registers, collecting and handling cash as required. Assist customers in finding merchandise in the OTC aisle when possible.
  • Inventory Management: Assist and support pharmacy inventory management activities, including ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing shipments of prescription drugs. Maintain knowledge of company asset safety procedures and document claims for warehouse discrepancies.
  • Healthcare Services Support: May assist pharmacists in administering medical services, including the collection and proper labeling of blood/urine samples from patients and other medical services as required.
  • Community Relations: Assist the Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in developing and maintaining positive relationships with the local medical community, including physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers.
  • Department Maintenance: Assist with internal and external maintenance by ensuring the pharmacy department is stocked with adequate supplies, clean, neat, and orderly in condition and appearance.

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico)
  • Pass a background check as required by state regulations
  • Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Show a commitment to patient care and customer service
  • Be detail-oriented and organized
  • Demonstrate the ability to work well in a team environment
  • Be willing to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes
  • Meet physical requirements, including standing for extended periods and lifting moderate loads

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications will make you a stronger candidate:

  • Six months or more of experience in a retail environment
  • Previous work experience with arenaflex or in the pharmacy industry
  • Strong math skills for accurately filling prescriptions, including counting, measuring, and weighing medications
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Knowledge of store inventory management
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB) or equivalent
  • Previous customer service experience
