About the Role

Our client, WhatJobs Direct, is seeking a highly experienced Principal Research Scientist to lead our Genomics and Bioinformatics initiatives. This position is fully remote, allowing talented individuals to contribute from anywhere within the United States. You will be instrumental in driving forward our research agenda, developing novel analytical approaches, and interpreting large-scale genomic datasets to uncover biological insights. Key Responsibilities

Lead the design and execution of complex genomic and bioinformatics research projects. Develop and implement advanced computational pipelines for analyzing next-generation sequencing (NGS) data. Analyze and interpret diverse genomic datasets, including whole-genome sequencing, exome sequencing, and transcriptomics. Collaborate closely with experimental biologists, clinicians, and other researchers to address key scientific questions. Develop and apply statistical and machine learning methods for biological data analysis. Visualize and communicate complex findings to both technical and non-technical audiences. Stay at the forefront of genomic technologies, bioinformatics tools, and analytical methodologies. Mentor and guide junior scientists and bioinformaticians. Contribute to grant writing and secure research funding. Ensure high-quality data management, documentation, and reproducible research practices.

Requirements

Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field. Minimum of 8 years of post-doctoral or industry experience in genomics and bioinformatics research. Proven track record of leading significant research projects and delivering impactful results. Extensive experience with NGS data analysis, including variant calling, genome assembly, and RNA-Seq analysis. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, and shell scripting. Deep understanding of statistical genetics, population genetics, and molecular biology. Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Spark) and cloud computing platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure). Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, essential for remote collaboration and presentation. Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and lead teams effectively in a remote setting.
