About the Role

Our client, a renowned automotive manufacturer at the forefront of technological innovation, is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their dynamic Powertrain Development team. This role, located in the heart of St. Louis, Missouri, US , utilizes a hybrid work model, offering a balance between in-office collaboration and remote flexibility. You will be instrumental in the design, development, and testing of advanced powertrain components and systems, contributing to the next generation of high-performance and efficient vehicles. This position requires a deep understanding of mechanical engineering principles applied to the complex challenges of automotive powertrain technology, including internal combustion engines, hybrid systems, and electric powertrains. The ideal candidate possesses a strong analytical aptitude, hands-on experience, and a passion for automotive engineering excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop mechanical components for automotive powertrains, including engine blocks, transmissions, drivelines, and battery enclosures. Utilize advanced CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks) for 3D modeling, assembly design, and detailed drafting of powertrain components. Perform detailed engineering analysis, including stress analysis, thermal analysis, and vibration analysis (FEA), to optimize design performance and durability. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, controls engineers, and materials specialists, to ensure integrated system development. Develop and execute comprehensive test plans for prototype components and systems, both in simulation and physical testing. Analyze test data, identify failure modes, and implement design improvements to enhance performance, reliability, and efficiency. Specify materials, manufacturing processes, and tolerances for powertrain components, working with manufacturing and supply chain teams. Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations for design reviews and project updates. Stay current with emerging trends and technologies in automotive powertrain development, including electrification and alternative fuels.

Requirements

Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. A minimum of 7 years of experience in mechanical design and development, with a strong focus on automotive powertrains. Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks) and experience with CAE tools for structural and thermal analysis. Solid understanding of engine mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and vehicle dynamics. Experience with testing and validation methodologies for automotive components. Knowledge of hybrid and electric vehicle powertrain systems is a significant advantage. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to thrive in a hybrid work environment and collaborate effectively with on-site and remote team members.
