[Remote] Accountant

Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Fulbright Construction Inc is a family-owned decorative concrete contracting company based in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. They are seeking an experienced Accountant to manage their financial operations, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting and compliance while providing strategic financial insights to support the company's growth.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage the full accounting cycle, from journal entries to financial close
• Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow
• Deliver timely financial reports to ownership with clear analysis and actionable insights
• Monitor financial performance against budget and flag variances proactively
• Manage federal, state, and local tax filings, including Colorado sales tax, payroll tax, and annual business returns
• Coordinate with external tax advisors and ensure all filings are accurate and on time
• Maintain full compliance with GAAP and applicable regulations
• Oversee contractor and vendor 1099 preparation and filing
• Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with ownership
• Develop cash flow forecasts and assist with short and long-term financial planning
• Provide cost analysis on projects and identify opportunities for margin improvement
• Support strategic decisions with accurate financial modeling and reporting
• Oversee payroll processing and ensure accuracy and compliance
• Establish and maintain internal financial controls and accounting procedures
• Review and reconcile all bank and credit card accounts monthly
• Manage accounts payable and receivable oversight
• Supervise and mentor our Bookkeeper, providing guidance and review of their work
• Maintain and optimize our accounting systems, QuickBooks Online or Desktop
• Identify and implement process improvements across the financial function
• Liaise with external auditors, CPAs, and financial institutions as needed

Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, CPA preferred
• 3–5+ years of accounting experience, ideally in construction, contracting, or a trade services environment
• Deep proficiency in QuickBooks Online or Desktop
• Strong working knowledge of GAAP, tax compliance, and financial reporting
• Experience with job costing and project-based accounting
• Proven ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
• Excellent analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail
• Clear, professional communication, you will interact directly with ownership and external partners
• CPA license or active pursuit of CPA designation
• Experience in the construction or trades industry
• Familiarity with Colorado state tax requirements and contractor billing regulations
• Experience supervising or mentoring junior accounting staff
• Knowledge of payroll platforms, Gusto, ADP, or similar
