[Remote] Senior Software Engineer

HireQ Talent is partnering with a high-growth, AI-native startup that is redefining how modern software runs through persistent, always-on cloud environments. They are seeking a Senior Software Engineer who will build application-layer systems controlling infrastructure and design isolated customer environments across VMs and containers.

Responsibilities

• Build application-layer systems that control infrastructure (VM lifecycle, containers, orchestration, queues)
• Design and scale isolated, per-customer environments across VMs and containers
• Create robust abstractions for queues, locking, background processing, and service orchestration
• Own and evolve infrastructure using Infrastructure-as-Code (Pulumi, Terraform, CDK)
• Work hands-on across Linux systems, networking, containers, storage, and runtime debugging
• Ship high-impact features quickly in a rapid iteration, high-ownership environment

Skills

• 6–12 years of experience owning production infrastructure and systems at scale
• Strong backend foundation (roughly 60% backend / 40% infrastructure)
• Deep experience with cloud platforms (Azure preferred; AWS/GCP also welcome)
• Proven track record of shipping end-to-end production systems
• Built infrastructure through application code, not just tooling or configuration
• Experience working in Series A–C startups, owning critical systems
• Hands-on expertise with: Containers (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Infrastructure-as-code (Pulumi, Terraform, CDK)
• Messaging systems, queues, and async processing
• Experience managing isolated customer environments at scale
• Background as a Founder, Founding Engineer, or equivalent ownership level
• A genuine passion for AI and its real-world applications
• Thrives in early-stage intensity, moves fast, takes ownership, and delivers
• Comfortable solving problems from first principles, without a roadmap
• Strong product intuition combined with sound engineering judgment
• A natural bias toward action, impact, and accountability
• Built or scaled persistent, isolated environments (VMs or containers)
• Designed architectures where each customer runs in their own environment
• Worked in fast-scaling startup environments, delivering at speed
• Successfully balanced application engineering with infrastructure ownership
• Demonstrated founder-level velocity, ownership, and decision-making
