About arenaflex

arenaflex is a fast‑growing technology and logistics company that started with on‑demand delivery and is rapidly expanding into a full‑service marketplace for a wide range of products. Our mission is to empower local economies by connecting merchants, drivers, and consumers through innovative data‑driven solutions. With a culture that prizes curiosity, collaboration, and continuous learning, arenaflex offers a dynamic environment where engineers can shape the future of commerce while delivering tangible impact for millions of users worldwide.

Why This Role Matters

Data is the lifeblood of arenaflex’s success. The Data Engineering team builds the robust data foundations that power analytics, product insights, operational efficiency, and strategic decision‑making. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be a cornerstone of this effort, designing and scaling data pipelines, data lakes, and warehouse architectures that enable real‑time and batch processing at massive scale. Your work will directly influence how the business grows, how merchants optimize their offerings, and how drivers receive the most efficient routes.

Role Overview

We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer to join our Data Platform group. This role is remote‑first, with a preference for candidates located near our major hubs in Sunnyvale, San Francisco, or Seattle. You will partner with product managers, data scientists, analytics engineers, and external vendors to understand data requirements, design robust solutions, and mentor junior engineers. The position offers a competitive hourly rate of $24, a flexible 8‑hour workday, and the opportunity to work on cutting‑edge data technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross‑functional partners to gather and translate business data needs into technical specifications.
  • Design, develop, and maintain large‑scale, high‑throughput data pipelines that feed the arenaflex Data Lake and Data Warehouse.
  • Build reusable, modular components that improve the reliability, scalability, and maintainability of ETL processes.
  • Implement data quality frameworks to ensure the delivery of accurate, consistent, and trustworthy data.
  • Optimize data storage solutions using Snowflake, Redshift, PostgreSQL, and other modern DBMS platforms.
  • Develop and maintain streaming pipelines with technologies such as Kafka, Flink, and AWS Kinesis.
  • Write performant SQL queries and develop data models that support analytical workloads and machine‑learning pipelines.
  • Mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and champion best practices in data engineering.
  • Stay current with emerging data technologies and recommend improvements to the existing data stack.
  • Participate in on‑call rotations and incident response to ensure high availability of critical data services.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in data engineering, analytics, or a comparable technical role.
  • Strong programming skills in Python or Java, with a focus on building data‑centric applications.
  • Hands‑on experience with ETL orchestration tools such as Airflow, Oozie, or Azkaban, preferably on AWS or GCP.
  • Deep understanding of relational databases, SQL, and data modeling concepts.
  • Proficiency with big‑data technologies like Hive, Druid, or Presto, and streaming platforms such as Kafka or Flink.
  • Experience working with cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, Redshift) and traditional RDBMS (PostgreSQL).
  • Familiarity with data visualization and reporting tools such as Looker, Superset, or Tableau.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Self‑starter attitude, comfortable thriving in a fast‑paced, high‑growth environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or advanced certifications in data engineering, cloud architecture, or related disciplines.
  • Experience building and managing data pipelines on both AWS and GCP platforms.
  • Knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines for data workloads.
  • Background in machine‑learning feature engineering and model deployment pipelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects from concept to production.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to dissect complex business problems and translate them into data solutions.
  • Problem Solving: Proactive troubleshooting of data quality, performance, and reliability issues.
  • Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills to partner with product, analytics, and engineering teams.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable navigating evolving requirements and shifting priorities.
  • Mentorship: Passion for coaching junior engineers and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Clear career pathways toward Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, or Data Architecture leadership roles.
  • Opportunities to work on cross‑functional projects that broaden your exposure to product, operations, and business strategy.
