At arenaflex, our culture is built on collaboration, curiosity, and continuous learning. We embrace remote-first work, empowering our engineers to do their best work from anywhere while staying deeply connected through a culture of transparency, mentorship, and shared purpose. If you're passionate about building scalable data systems that genuinely improve lives, your next chapter starts here.

Position Overview

arenaflex is hiring a Senior Data Engineering Specialist to join our dynamic and fast-growing data organization. This is a full-time, remote-eligible opportunity offering $50/hour with standard 8-hour workdays. In this role, you will serve as a key technical architect, designing and implementing large-scale data infrastructure that powers our analytics, reporting, and data science initiatives across multiple CVS Health-aligned business groups.

As a senior member of our data engineering team, you will own end-to-end delivery of complex data solutions — from conceptual design through production deployment — while collaborating with data scientists, product managers, analysts, and business stakeholders. Your work will directly influence how arenaflex harnesses data to generate insights, optimize operations, and drive innovation in the healthcare ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect Scalable Data Infrastructure: Design and develop large-scale data architectures and pipelines that organize, ingest, and normalize data from diverse sources to produce actionable insights and address complex reporting requirements.
  • Build ETL Processes: Engineer robust Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) workflows, design efficient database systems, and develop tooling for both real-time and offline analytical processing.
  • Partner with Data Science: Collaborate closely with data science teams to transform raw data, integrate algorithms and predictive models into automated, production-grade processes.
  • Cloud & Big Data Expertise: Leverage cloud platforms (GCP preferred, AWS or Azure acceptable), Hadoop ecosystems, and query optimization techniques to construct high-performance data pipelines.
  • Develop with Modern Programming Languages: Write clean, scalable code in Python (or other major languages) to build resilient data pipelines and dynamic systems capable of handling enterprise workloads.
  • Design Data Stores & Models: Construct data warehouses, data lakes, and dimensional data models that serve data scientists, analysts, and internal business users across the organization.
  • Ensure Data Quality & Accessibility: Integrate data from multiple sources while enforcing strict data quality, governance, and accessibility standards that meet regulatory and business requirements.
  • Evaluate & Optimize Environments: Analyze existing data technology stacks to identify critical capabilities, surface bottlenecks, and recommend strategic improvements.
  • Explore Emerging Tools: Experiment with available and emerging technologies, advising stakeholders on optimal tool selection based on specific use cases, modeling needs, and business objectives.
  • Mentor & Lead: Provide technical guidance to junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and contribute to architectural decision-making across the broader engineering community at arenaflex.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Professional Experience: 5+ years of relevant hands-on experience in data engineering, with a proven track record of delivering production-grade solutions.
  • SQL Mastery: 5+ years of advanced experience writing, optimizing, and tuning complex SQL queries across large datasets.
  • Python Proficiency: 5+ years of experience developing data pipelines and backend systems using Python.
  • Cloud Platform Knowledge: Demonstrated experience with at least one major cloud provider — Google Cloud Platform (GCP) strongly preferred; AWS or Azure also valued.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, with a talent for translating complex technical concepts into clear, business-friendly language.
  • Problem-Solving Acumen: Strong critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and creative problem-solving capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with Hadoop, Hive, or PySpark in large-scale distributed environments.
  • Hands-on experience with modern reporting and visualization platforms such as Tableau or Looker.
  • Familiarity with healthcare industry data, including claims, clinical, or provider data — a strong plus.
  • Experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect.
  • Knowledge of data governance frameworks, data cataloging, and metadata management.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code (Terraform), and DevOps practices for data systems.

Essential Skills & Competencies

  • Deep understanding of data modeling techniques, including star schemas, snowflake schemas, and data vault methodologies.
  • Strong grasp of distributed computing principles and parallel processing frameworks.
  • Ability to balance long-term architectural vision with short-term delivery commitments.
  • Comfort working in agile, fast-paced environments with shifting priorities.
  • A passion for clean code, automation, and operational excellence.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence without authority.

  • Mentorship Programs: Pairings with senior leaders and technical fellows who guide your career journey.
  • Innovation Time: Dedicated hours each quarter for exploring pet projects, emerging technologies, and research.
  • Leadership Pathways: Clear progression from Senior Individual Contributor to Principal Engineer, Engineering Manager, or Distinguished Architect tracks.
