Shared Services Coordinator / Regional Epidemiologist

About the position The Shared Services Coordinator / Regional Epidemiologist supports the work of local health departments in the Towns of Easton, Foxborough, Mansfield, Norton, Plainville, and Sharon, collectively known as the Bristol Norfolk Public Health Partners (BNPHP). This regional collaboration functions as a shared public health services model funded through state grants with the Town of Foxborough serving as the fiscal agent. This position is responsible for coordinating the administration of the Public Health Excellence Grant (PHEG), provided by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. The role also includes providing coverage for the Massachusetts Virtual Epidemiological Network (MAVEN), analyzing epidemiological and environmental health data, and supporting community-based public health programs and initiatives throughout the BNPHP region.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the implementation and administration of the Public Health Excellence Grant for all BNPHP communities, including tracking grant expenditures, monitoring inspection data, complaint records, and ensuring all reporting requirements set by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health are met.
  • Plays a central role in maintaining data integrity and ensuring compliance with grant conditions.
  • Supports the development and delivery of public health education materials and community outreach initiatives.
  • Assists in planning and implementing programs focused on health promotion and disease prevention, utilizing a variety of communication methods such as in-person engagement, websites, social media, and other digital platforms to reach residents across all BNPHP communities.
  • Accesses MAVEN data on behalf of the partner communities to investigate communicable disease trends, identify at-risk populations, and support data-driven decision-making and targeted interventions.
  • May be responsible for conducting public health inspections, pursuant to BNPHP community requests, to ensure adherence to local and state laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Maintains accurate and detailed inspection records, prepares reports outlining findings, and responds to community complaints with appropriate follow-up actions.
  • Researches, proposes, and implements public health initiatives aimed at improving service delivery and advancing BNPHP regional goals.
  • Works collaboratively with the BNPHP Steering Committee and local health departments to promote equitable access to public health services throughout the region.
  • Attends meetings, seminars, health education events, and training sessions to maintain current knowledge of public health practices and technologies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Occasional evening and weekend meetings may be required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health or similar.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Comprehensive understanding of public health principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with the administration of a grant.
  • Working knowledge of state and local laws or regulations related to public health.
  • Ability to use data to educate the public about public health trends.
  • Ability to read and interpret epidemiological data, public health literature, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and planning skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, remain composed under pressure, and meet deadlines consistently.
  • Proficiency in computer systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to perform routine physical activities associated with both office and fieldwork.
  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, speak, and hear, as well as use hands for handling documents and operating equipment.
  • Adequate vision and hearing are necessary to perform essential job functions, including reading documents and using a computer.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master’s degree in Epidemiology is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working within a municipal or other governmental health department preferred.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, and lifting of objects weighing up to 30 pounds may be required.
