Why This Role Matters

As a Senior Data Engineer at arenaflex, you will be at the heart of our data strategy, designing and building the pipelines that move massive volumes of health‑care information from source to insight. Your work will directly influence the quality of analytics, the speed of decision‑making, and ultimately the outcomes for millions of individuals who rely on our services. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of health‑care data while working from the comfort of your home.

Role Overview

This full‑time, remote position is based in Chelmsford, USA, but offers the flexibility of a work‑from‑home arrangement. You will lead the end‑to‑end development of data architectures, ETL processes, and cloud‑based pipelines that support a variety of business units across arenaflex. You will partner with data scientists, analysts, product owners, and engineering teams to ensure data is reliable, secure, and ready for advanced analytics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain large‑scale data pipelines that ingest, transform, and store data from diverse health‑care sources.
  • Build robust ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) workflows using Python, SQL, and modern orchestration tools.
  • Architect and manage data lake and warehouse solutions on cloud platforms (preferably GCP, with experience in AWS or Azure also valued).
  • Collaborate with the Data Science team to operationalize machine‑learning models and analytical workloads.
  • Implement data quality frameworks, ensuring compliance with industry standards for privacy, security, and governance.
  • Optimize data storage and retrieval performance, leveraging technologies such as Hadoop, Hive, and PySpark.
  • Evaluate emerging data technologies and recommend strategic investments to keep arenaflex at the forefront of innovation.
  • Mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of best practices, code review, and continuous learning.
  • Document architecture decisions, pipeline designs, and operational procedures for cross‑functional teams.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies, providing technical insight and estimating effort for upcoming initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience in data engineering, with a proven track record of building production‑grade pipelines.
  • Expertise in SQL and relational database design, with at least 5 years of experience writing complex queries.
  • Proficiency in Python and its data‑processing libraries (e.g., pandas, SQLAlchemy, PySpark).
  • Demonstrated experience with cloud platforms—Google Cloud Platform (preferred), Amazon Web Services, or Microsoft Azure.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent analytical thinking, problem‑solving, and critical‑reasoning abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands‑on experience with Hadoop ecosystem tools such as Hive, HDFS, and Spark.
  • Familiarity with data visualization and reporting tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau, Power BI).
  • Background in the health‑care industry, understanding of HIPAA, HL7, and other relevant data standards.
  • Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines for data workloads.
  • Knowledge of data governance frameworks and data cataloging solutions.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Technical Acumen: Ability to architect scalable, fault‑tolerant data solutions that meet high‑availability requirements.
  • Collaboration: Proven ability to work across multidisciplinary teams, fostering partnership and shared ownership of outcomes.
  • Innovation Mindset: Curiosity to explore new tools, frameworks, and methodologies that can improve data processing efficiency.
  • Attention to Detail: Commitment to data integrity, security, and compliance throughout the pipeline lifecycle.
  • Leadership: Capability to guide junior engineers, lead technical discussions, and influence architectural direction.
