HR/Sales Internship - Remote in USA

Remote · USA Full-time New today

HR/Sales Internship - Remote, but work must be conducted while in the USA 21 Benefits is seeking motivated and friendly college students interested in gaining experience working with small business owners in their communities. This position will expose interns to the challenges of Human Resources, as viewed from an external position. In this instance, Interns will be making unsolicited visits to multiple small businesses, for the sole purpose of scheduling an introductory meeting to discuss how a modestly priced 21 Benefits subscription software ($100 to $300/month) can enhance their employee benefits package, while offering substantial savings for their business. Interns will introduce 21 Benefits to local businesses for the benefit of their workers. Most businesses with fewer than 50 employees find It difficult to find affordable employee benefit packages for their workers - including health insurance. While most small employers are able to offer only a few employee benefit plans, 21 Benefits delivers 21+ benefit plans for workers to choose from, and also delivers substantial savings versus more traditional benefit plans. It is virtually unheard of for a small business to have the buying power to be able to offer more than a few plans, so employers will not be familiar with this platform. Also, if you have experience in Human Resources, you may imagine a full department of professionals, all of whom are well versed in HR language and concepts. But for small businesses, this is not the case. Rather, "HR" for small businesses typically means that the business owner tries to handle HR in his/her spare time, or they have an office manager handle the role, as well as multiple other roles. Helping to solve the HR problems of small businesses can give a student great insight into the differences between HR roles in large vs. small employers, and as part of the process you may even discover a future small business career opportunity. Interns decide which small businesses to approach. Small businesses with fewer than 50 employees can include bars, restaurants, diners, gas stations, hair salons, hardware stores, gift shops, dry cleaners, clothing stores, bakeries, real estate brokers, accountants, attorneys, exercise studios, child care, car wash, consultants, landscapers, veterinarian, retail, janitorial, healthcare, social services, plumbers, printers, food delivery, ride-share drivers, bus rivers, transportation services and more. Your job is to ask business owners the following question: “If I can show you a way to save money on your group employee benefits program, would you be interested?” If they say “Yes” then you ask what day/time they are available for an MS Teams virtual meeting that you will be joining (don't worry, your role in the meeting is only to observe and learn). And if they say “No” then you decide whether to talk with them further, or move on. Pretty simple. It’s OK to tell them you’re an intern, and you‘d love it if they would allow you to introduce a licensed professional to help save them time and money. Also, at the tail end of each visit, and only if you get a good vibe from the visit, then don't be afraid to mention that you will be graduating shortly, and wonder if they may have the need for a hardworking graduate like yourself - you'll be surprised at how impressed business owners will be when you are forthright about your interest in their business. As graduation approaches, your call might start with: "I had the pleasure of meeting you back on (date) when I stopped in during my internship. I'll be graduating in three months, and thought of you and your business . . ." If you embrace this approach, you could have many more job leads than most of your classmates. Importantly, there are no size or geographic restrictions on this Internship, other than each business must be in the USA. So if you have a family member or friend who owns any size business anywhere in the USA interested in reducing costs, and if the owner or HR manager of that business would be kind enough to join you on an MS Teams meeting, then we would be happy to have a conversation with them to see if we can help. In addition to 21 Benefits resources, we partner with one of the largest brokerage firms in the nation, allowing us to handle a groups of 50, or 500 or 5,000+ employees. The reason we are focusing on groups with Apply Job!
