Multilingual Learner (MLL) Teacher

Position Overview: The Multilingual Learner (MLL) Teacher is responsible for supporting students who are in the process of learning English as an additional language. This position involves providing tailored instruction, developing inclusive lesson plans, and fostering a supportive environment for multilingual students to succeed academically and socially. Key Responsibilities: • Instructional Support: • Plan and deliver engaging lessons to support English language acquisition in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. • Use research-based methods and strategies to differentiate instruction for students at various proficiency levels. • Incorporate students’ cultural backgrounds into lessons to create an inclusive and respectful learning environment. • Assessment and Monitoring: • Assess students’ English language proficiency using standardized assessments and informal measures. • Monitor progress and maintain accurate records to inform instruction and report outcomes to stakeholders. • Collaboration: • Work closely with classroom teachers to adapt curriculum and provide accommodations for MLL students. • Collaborate with school staff, families, and community organizations to support students’ needs. • Compliance and Professional Development: • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local requirements for English Language Learner (ELL) programs. • Participate in professional development to stay updated on best practices in multilingual education. Qualifications: • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, TESOL, Linguistics, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred. • Licensure: Valid teaching license with an ESL or MLL endorsement, as required by the state of Indiana. • Experience: Previous experience working with multilingual learners in an educational setting is preferred. Key Skills and Attributes: • Strong understanding of second-language acquisition and culturally responsive teaching practices. • Excellent communication and collaboration skills. • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment. • Proficiency in another language (preferred but not required). Working Conditions: This position involves working in a classroom setting with multilingual learners. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required for parent-teacher conferences or community events.
