For additional information on remote work at Penn State, see .JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTSThe College/Unit of Housing and Food Services, Harrisburg is seeking applicants for part-time job of Culinary Extern.Job Duties

• Assist in preparing and cooking meals in accordance with standardized recipes and dietary guidelines.
• Support daily kitchen operations including food prep, line service, and sanitation.
• Learn and apply food safety standards (e.g., ServSafe protocols).
• Participate in menu planning, special events, and sustainability initiatives.
• Collaborate with chefs and team members to ensure food quality and presentation.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen and storage areas.
• Complete a final project of a feature meal for one of our outlets.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a culinary arts, hospitality, or related academic program.
• Basic knowledge of kitchen tools, food preparation techniques, and safety practices.
• Strong communication skills and a willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
• A positive attitude and a passion for food and service.

Compensation

• The starting rate for this job is $15/hour.
