Join the Salem-Keizer Public Schools team as an AVID Tutor 2023-24 - South and play a vital role in shaping the academic success of our students. This is a unique opportunity to work in a collaborative and dynamic environment, utilizing specific teaching methodologies and materials to drive student progress toward college and career readiness skills.

About the Role

As an AVID Tutor, you will work with AVID students in study groups and individually, providing support in all academic areas. You will facilitate collaborative tutorial groups, using Socratic questioning and learning techniques to empower students to take ownership of their learning. Your goal will be to help students achieve their full potential, while setting an example of personal excellence and high expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-person tutorial sessions that foster collaborative learning and peer-to-peer teaching
  • Determine concepts that need focus in tutorial sessions, based on student worksheets, notes, and discussions
  • Guide students to take responsibility for their active learning, using strategies for independent learning
  • Assist students in any subject area, familiarizing yourself with textbooks, materials, and AVID classroom resources
  • Provide constructive feedback online and/or in-person on student work
  • Support AVID scholars through care and connection
  • Take responsibility for the tone and atmosphere of the AVID classroom
  • Assist the AVID coordinator as requested, and communicate regularly with them regarding student progress
