Remote Associate Counsel - California Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Associate Counsel to join our team in California. As a remote Associate Counsel, you will play a critical role in defending lawsuits filed in California courts and handling first-party insurance defense cases. Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for researching laws, preparing legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda, and rendering opinions on liability, damages, and value. You will also prepare and handle pleadings, motions, and discovery, including depositions and examinations under oath, and defend cases by trial or dispositive hearing.

Key Responsibilities:

• Research and analyze laws, regulations, and court decisions to provide expert legal advice and guidance
• Prepare and draft legal documents, including briefs, opinions, and memoranda
• Render opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department
• Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, and discovery, including depositions and examinations under oath
• Defend cases by trial or dispositive hearing, as applicable

Requirements:

• 7-9+ years of experience in a related field, preferably in civil litigation or insurance defense
• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
• Admission to the California Bar and licensure to practice law in California
• Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to travel as required, including attending trials, hearings, and depositions

Preferred Qualifications:

• Civil litigation experience, preferably in insurance defense
• Experience with California courts and procedures
• Strong technical and procedural knowledge of insurance law and regulations
