About the Opportunity

As a Senior Technical Specialist at Apple's Prineville Data Center, you will be a key contributor to the reliability, performance, and security of our global data infrastructure. You will leverage your deep technical expertise to troubleshoot complex issues, implement preventative maintenance, and participate in projects aimed at enhancing our data center capabilities. This role demands a proactive, problem-solving mindset and the ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse team of engineers and stakeholders. You will be instrumental in maintaining the integrity of Apple’s data, which is the foundation of our innovative products and services.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution: Diagnose and resolve complex hardware, software, and network issues within the data center environment. This includes identifying root causes, implementing effective solutions, and documenting resolutions in a clear and concise manner. You will be a go-to resource for colleagues facing challenging technical problems.
  • System Maintenance & Monitoring: Perform routine system maintenance, including software updates, hardware inspections, and performance monitoring. Proactively identify potential issues and implement preventative measures to ensure optimal system uptime and stability.
  • Incident Management: Respond to and manage data center incidents according to established protocols. This includes escalating issues as necessary, coordinating with other teams, and ensuring timely resolution to minimize downtime.
  • Project Support & Implementation: Participate in data center infrastructure projects, including upgrades, expansions, and new deployments. This may involve planning, testing, and implementation of new technologies and systems.
  • Security & Compliance: Adhere to strict security protocols and compliance requirements to protect sensitive data. Assist in the implementation and maintenance of security measures to safeguard the data center environment.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Create and maintain accurate documentation of data center systems, procedures, and troubleshooting steps. Share knowledge and expertise with colleagues through training, mentoring, and knowledge base articles.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with other engineers, operations teams, and stakeholders to ensure seamless data center operations. Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to convey technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Automation & Scripting: Develop and maintain scripts to automate routine tasks, improve efficiency, and enhance system monitoring. Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) is highly desirable.
  • Vendor Management: Collaborate with vendors to resolve technical issues and ensure timely delivery of services.
  • Capacity Planning: Assist in capacity planning efforts to ensure the data center infrastructure can meet future demands.

Qualifications

  • Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a data center environment, with a strong focus on systems administration, networking, or storage.
  • Technical Skills: Proven experience with server hardware, operating systems (e.g., Linux, Windows Server), networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP), and storage technologies (e.g., SAN, NAS). Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) is a plus.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to quickly diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Teamwork & Collaboration: Ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate with colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA, Cisco, VMware) are highly desirable.
