Basic Function: The Shift Supervisor is the acting administrator for the Intensive Transitional Treatment Centers (ITTC) for each assigned shift. The Supervisor is directly responsible for the supervision of the children and staff, and the condition of the facility for the shifts to which they are assigned. This position will be a considered a "float" position, meaning the 3rd Shift Supervisor will be responsible for both the Girls and Boys units.

  • Per the Department of Children and Families, all direct care staff working in ITTCs are required to maintain a Medication Administration Certification and both a TCI De-escalation Techniques (Part A) and TCI Physical Intervention Techniques (Part B) Certification.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • At the beginning of a shift, receive possession of ITTC key ring and all information appropriate from previous shifts. Maintain accountability for all residents throughout each shift. Complete shift reports prior to transferring to next supervisor.
  • Responsible for insuring that the system of shift reporting by assigned staff is complete, accurate, and timely.
  • Supervise any Child Care Workers and Lead Child Care Workers assigned to the shift supervisor’s team.
  • Oversee the safety and stability of all children in designated ITTC unit for all shifts assigned by the Director. Inform on-call administrator and Chief Operating Officer (COO) as directed in accordance with established procedures.
  • Serve as primary line between the Director and the day-to-day child care services of the designated ITTC unit.
  • Directly intervene in the management and control of acting out behaviors and assist and supervise all other staff with such matters. Responsible for the philosophical and mechanical behavior management program on their assigned shift.
  • Perform intakes of new admissions during the assigned shift in accordance with established procedures. Responsible for the completion of all intakes, and related tasks, during their assigned shift.
  • Ensure the development and implementation of all recreational, cultural and enrichment activities on all shifts.
  • Ensure the appropriate completion of all documentation including incident reports, Use of Physical Intervention forms, AWOL forms, Exceptional Circumstance forms, MARs, First Report of Injury forms, Supervisor Investigation forms, log books, shift reports, etc., by all staff on their assigned shift.
  • Serve as a member of the program’s treatment team preparing the residential assessments, progress reports and discharge summaries in accordance with established procedures.
  • Responsible for complete and appropriate coverage of all shifts and managing/controlling over-time of assigned ITTC staff.
  • Be available for on-call and back-up responsibilities as needed. Be available to work extra shifts for emergency coverage as needed.
  • Have a personal knowledge of the personality, behavior and treatment needs of all residents. Ensure that all ITTC staff have adequate working knowledge of the ITTC residents.
  • Train assigned staff and ensure strict adherence to all ITTC Emergency Procedures.
  • Obtain and maintain a train the trainer certification for assigned agency models.
  • Administer medications to residents according to established procedures. Maintain state certifications.
  • Responsible for coordinating the timely maintenance and overseeing the use of ITTC vehicles.
  • Respond in accordance with agency procedures to situations which require physical and/or emotional intervention with the residents.
  • Maintain knowledge of and ensure that all staff know and follow agency policies and procedures as contained in the WCS Personnel Handbook, WCS Procedure Manual, and department manuals.
  • Function as a positive role model for all students and staff at the Waterford Country School and the ITTC Program.
  • Maintain an awareness of and sensitivity to the cultural and socioeconomic differences present among the service population and fellow staff members of WCS, ensuring that cultural needs are respected and supported through the delivery of services and the development and implementation of agency programs and policies in a manner that is free from discrimination and bias relating to race, ethnicity, age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, status as a victim of domestic violence or religious beliefs.
  • Practice within agency models (e.g. CARE, TCI,), supporting the therapeutic milieu at Waterford Country School for students, Agency staff, volunteers and stakeholders.
  • Maintain access to and compliance with ethical professional standards of the discipline in which credentialed.
  • Maintain a valid Connecticut or other home state Driver’s License to transport residents in agency vehicles.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of ITTC.

Qualifications
