Job Summary

This role is responsible for providing the technical direction for the rest of the platform team by implementing and supporting the implementation of new tools that can help maintain and improve the service that the platform team delivers to the rest of HUB. This role is also responsible for ensuring the continuous reliability of our production environment, identifying and addressing potential failures and opportunities for improvement to enhance the availability of all the company's applications. A senior engineer will be 'tuned in' to the wider team, to understand the team's frustrations and any pain points that could be improved to increase the velocity of application updates. Lastly, Senior DevOps Engineers are expected to mentor and support more junior members of the team, helping them to be effective in their role.

Responsibilities

  • Implement tools and processes to improve the reliability, security, and efficiency of the ecosystem/platform.

  • Working closely with the engineers, understand and eliminate any blockers to maximize

    engineering throughput.

  • Configure, orchestrate, and continuously improve the client's platform.

  • Review and enforce platform reliability for all applications entering the ecosystem.

  • Improving the visibility of key performance metrics of the SMC platform.

  • Training internal users on DevOps processes and tools.

  • Providing a 3rd line escalation point for platform engineers in need of assistance.

  • Taking part in the out-of-hours on-call rotation.

  • Lead large-scale projects that impact stakeholders outside your sphere of influence.

  • Working closely with engineers to develop, maintain, and improve the CI/CD process.

  • Provide architectural insight and support when needed.

  • Strong communicator who adapts to different audiences, proactively shares feedback, and collaborates across teams and regions.

  • Supports peer and team development by identifying strengths, coaching informally, and promoting continuous growth.

  • Committed to quality, innovation, and process improvement, with a strong sense of ownership and attention to detail.

  • Highly adaptable, manages time effectively, embraces change, and drives learning to improve team performance.

Qualifications and Job Requirements

  • A strong working knowledge of container orchestration tools.

  • Strong understanding and demonstrable experience of cloud technologies and providers.

  • Thorough knowledge of GCP (GKE, Cloud SQL, Networking) and an understanding of AWS

    (ALB, EC2, VPC, Route53).

  • Strong understanding of Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery (CI/CD).

  • Good comprehension of database administration.

  • Proficient in at least one scripting language for automation of tasks.

  • Solid understanding of network and security principles.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills.

  • Subject matter expert in all IAC (Infrastructure as code) and configuration management tools used throughout the company.
